Well since you claim it was not even a close round but a clear one for Pac, then we obviously are in disagreement.

I score rounds based on punches landed. So imo a round goes to the one that scores the most punches, for me a blow is considered "damaging" only if it is obvious that it hurt the other fighter. Noone looks "kinda hurt" in that round and neither you or me were in JMM's shoes to know how "damaging" those blows were. So, I give it to Marquez cause he landed more shots, even if 2 or 3 of Pac's shots seemed cleaner to you.

I agree with the 1st round comment, very tough round to score.

I like those gifs! Is it hard to explain how you make them?

I don't have the strength to re-watch the 11th mate, will do it tomorrow. :dead

this is not amateur boxing and therefore shouldn't be scored as such. I haven't done it but I have a feeling that even if I score the round purely on the number of connects, Pac will edge it out.

Man, neither fighter was hurt in that round. Damage is subjective. Are you just waiting for one or two big blows from one of the fighters to give him the round, even if the other has landed more punches during the whole round?

Did you score the Holyfield/Lewis II fight for Holyfield? :think

Score the round purely on connects to see what you come up with.

tbh, for a fight like this.. we need a thread for each round (and i'm not joking)!

with video posted (i have youtube links to all & those with it on their comps can watch it there) & then everyone can post what they thought it was ... and vote in the poll.

Much easier to argue about specific rounds then also & perhaps better for settling this.
Would be great if we could get eastside to give us a temporary forum for it too so the threads are easy to find :-D.

also for round1 -- perhaps that round shows that 10-10 is too easily discarded as an option by judges & fans alike in the sport of boxing?

Room or not, the punch did snap Pac's head back a bit. I see your point, but I would score that punch.

Watching it over and over again. It seems like it scored dude. If you watch closely you'll see that Pac didn't anticipate it as you say, cause a moment before JMM began to throw the punch Pac was wiping his face. He did try to block it, but he only managed to turn to the side and it seems he got hit. But anyway... :dead

No doubt. About half of the rounds were a ***** to score.

Fair point. But I also see the point of judges trying not to score even rounds, as sometimes it could be used as a "safe" solution.

Not at all, but this is not amateur boxing. Simply landing more pitty pat punches doesn't automatically win you a round. Damage is subjective but sometimes its obvious which shots are more effective. If you counted that push off that marquez does to manny at 55 seconds as a landed left hook, then IMO you need to reevaluate how to score rounds.

-Manny's mind, face & emotions had it x+1 Marquez - x Pacquiao -- derived from Manny's face & reaction to when he was announced the winner. As opposed to fight1 where they both thought they'd done enough to have won & were disappointed with the draw.

-Renowned Manny nuthugger Larry Merchant had it even going in to the final round and knew marquez won the final round then said "i'm calling it another draw" and then iirc Lampley said words to the effect of "that's difficult to do if you had them even going into the final round".

    Thought I'd post the judges' scorecard, Lederman's & Iole's.
Not that Lederman knows jack or that Iole is a genius (I actually got the judges scores off of an Iole yahoo page! so thought i'd add him just as another fan or poster.. only he's not posted it! i have for him!)

    ---

will find my scorecard later this weekend & if i get time re-watch the fight + post the 2nd scorecard of that (i am sure some rounds may differ -- as it was bloody hard to score at times... and this is a fight i've seen 3 times on my own, in my own quiet room -- yet from each diff. viewing.. sometimes you see different things.. very hard to do -- and the fact that here in this debate we tend to compare so many different short 5-second periods of a round & tot them up... etc just goes to show how hard to score some of the rounds were).

Maybe an interesting way of scoring this fight (though not consistent with the sport of boxing but still an interesting way to go about it just to see if it changes your mind or not?) is to splice all the rounds together & watch it as one continous 36min fight... and then say who won.

danger is, ppl have short memories (VERY short) & often.. the crowd will decide too much + there is the danger of the 'recency effect'. anyhow...

    let this debate continue!

As much as you want to think of it as a clear round, it was a close round and I found myself looking for punches that would determine the round winner. Even if you don't count that shot (I only counted it when I watched the fight in slow-motion), JMM still takes the round for me. The clean-effective blows in that round are about 9-7 for Marquez, not counting that "push".

I don't claim to be an expert at judging fights, but honestly the only fights that I remember not agreeing with the official scorecards were Calzaghe-Hopkins, Holyfield/Lewis I, DLH-Mosley I and Casamayor-Santa Cruz. I'm being honest here.

Did you score the Holyfield/Lewis II fight for Holyfield? :think

If this is the round where the fight was stopped for awhile to check on a cut with about aminute to go then yes I scored it for Pacman. Its easy to be fooled that JMM stole that round in the final minute when Pacman controlled the first 2 but because the action was being hold, it ruined all the momentum .

Yes that's the round, but it was stopped at :23., no momentum there really. Pacman didn't control the second minute of that round, imo.

And Jerry ****ing Roth agrees with me, mother****ers. :deal

    Anyways, I'm :dead...

Will be back in this thread later.

whilst Iole & all 3 judges all had it for Marquez.
