ah the less said about the 2002 world cup the better, vic. That was a disastrous way to go out for the underacheving 90s generation.A team full of aging, injury prone players and the coach Oleg Romantsev was an alcoholic barely a year away from a meltdown that would more or less end his managerial career for good.

Karpin was always excellent though and consistently overlooked because he never moved to a big club. One of the few Russian internationals from that era who wasn't a lazy ******* with no ambition\dedication.Even as an old player he was the midfield engine that nearly won la liga for Sociedad.A top-notch winger and playmaker rolled into one.

In terms of greatness, it's a matter of fact. H2H.... I have my doubts!

    That's beautifully put.

However....shouldn't your praise for the scene go to Coppola? Here's the difference... Brando improvised. He created that role. The scene with the cat? Brando saw the cat and picked it up and with that motion, did what the writers and the director and DeNiro did on the front stoop. No music. Beautiful irony.

The scene where he slaps his godson (Al Martino who was a great crooner in the 60s, he did "Spanish Eyes") was his own. "You can act like a man!!" -hell that was my cell phone ringtone and didn't I feel like a jerk-off when it went off in an important meeting at work and I couldn't find the stupid phone in my coat. Anyway, the slapping scene wasn't scripted. Martino wasn't much of an actor, he was singer and his performance needed feeling. So Brando shoots up from the chair and slaps him to improve the scene. That's genius.

There's a scene where Pacino brushes a leaf off his shoulder. He improvised that. Brando showed up on set and noticed: "I like what you did with the leaf," he says. Pacino is so happy about that he goes out and gets drunk.
