i had it 6-4 Sergio but i was really liking barker's performance as he BOXED and made martinez completely inefficient till the last 3 rnds any expert knows that martinez wasnt blowing any1 out of the water and looked like a lost puppy most of the time...
Barker fought like a German champion in Germany....without realising he wasn't a German, the Venue wasn't Germany and the judges...well yeah. It's fine having a low accurate workd rate, a 'la Sturm/Sylvester etc, if you have the judges in your pocket and the other guy isn't throwing shots...when the other guy is throwing more you simply have to step it up and Barker never managed to throw enough to really make an impression on the scorecard. I think I had it 8-2 though could see 9-1 and 7-3. Barker whilst "in it" didn't do anywhere near enough to ever look like he was going to "win it"
Yes, it was. Typical round where Martinez made a show of flinging his arms around but only actually touched Barker a hand of times.
I had Barker a point up mid rounds, Martinez was hitting Barkers gloves alot of the time in the first 5 rounds, by the sounds of it alot of people obviously thought they were scoring shots. Barker is and always has been a good boxer and i knew he was going to give a good account of himself .... I wasnt a fan of Barker but i am now, he is a real good guy and deserves abit of respect... People only giving Barker 2 rounds.... atsch Shame on you.
2 rounds to Barker :nut He ****ing was hitting him with scoreing shots, what just because a boxer fires a shot and it doesnt knock the man out does that mean it is not worthy of a scoreing punch? When your catching your oppenent with a jab because it has no real power and doesnt lift the oppenent of the floor, it doent score. Sergio got outboxed at times in the 1st half of the fight
2, Maybe 3 rounds to Barker. A few close rounds in there, but Martinez was doing most of the work and busting him up despite a lot of his shots being partially blocked. A lot were also getting through and that's why Barker getting KOed wasn't surprising to me. He put up a good effort but for the most part was being dominated. Even going into the 11th my ass. Barker won 3 rounds if you're being generous and 4 rounds at absolute most.
I thought the fight was very close and that Barker landed the cleaner punches throughout while Martinez landed mostly on Barker's gloves. Alot of the rounds you could give to either one of the fighters and i disdainfully laugh at those who says Martinez dominated. If not for the KO, Martinez had not effectively shown what separates him (who claims to be p4p no 1 or 2) from the inexperienced and unheralded Barker
Just rewatched this fight for the first time and was even more impressed with the work Barker managed to put in, at times he couldn't miss with head punches and controlled large portions of the matchup. Very interesting to see other people's scorecards up until the stoppage when considering the contrasting styles both brought to the ring. A lot like Canelo vs Trout with regards to how it divided opinion. 1st - Martinez 2nd - Barker 3rd - Barker 4th - Barker 5th - Barker 6th - Martinez 7th - Martinez 8th - Barker 9th - Martinez 10th - Martinez
I had it an even draw when the KO happened. It's funny I thought Barker clearly won 4 or 5 rounds, while Macklin gets a lot of credit for the performance he put in with Sergio but I really only thought he won 2 or 3 rounds (+ the KD).
