What was your scorecard? Especially you, PHILLA. I thought Ward pitched a shutout. Apparently I'm going overboard.
Come on man, that's an understatement, Kessler got a thorough beating...he never won a round on my card.
I don't know what it is, maybe I'm generous to the loser, but others seem to disagree with you on this too. It seems you always score fights somewhat drastically. Yes, Kessler got out-classed. But I think I may have given him 2 rounds, at the least. I agree, the rounds he won were very very close in comparison to the rounds Ward won, which is what makes him difficult. So in the end, Ward did really out-class him. But on a round by round basis, I don't think it was a shutout. And the judges agree with me, too. You did the same thing with the Haye vs Valuev fight.
i had ward winning every single round as well addie, even in the rounds where ward got sloppy, kessler didn't have answer for wards speed and non stop pressure.
No I didn't! I gave Valuev about 3 rounds in that fight. This fight was a shutout, and Greg Patterson from the classic forum had it the same. Judges are notoriously terrible at scoring prize fights, so using that for your argument is redundant. The fight was one sided, I wanted Kessler to come on and give us a competitive fight as I was neutral..but he was out landed in every single round. If you think that's an overstatement, I invite you to come over my house and we can score the fight together. The most you could give Kessler was a round..but he got outclassed, outpunched, outboxed...dominated. There is no way anyone could have seen this to have been competitive.
Five was the closet thing to competitive, Ward got hit big, twice. But Ward was dominating before-hand and caught Kessler flush and backed him up to close the round. Only swing round of the fight.
only round you can even consider in Kessler's favor is round 6, and I didn't for a second think he won that round. Total shutout, even when Ward got wild Kess failed to capitalize.
I had Ward winning the first 4 rounds, then they split rounds 5 through 9. Pretty sure it was round 9 that was a clear as day Kessler round. Ward took the 10th and I thought Kessler was doing real well in the 11th before the fight was stopped. I didn't keep a round by round scorecard just a mental tab on the rounds. Also, I watched the fight with the sound turned off from the first round on. Maybe that made a difference in my scoring. Probably a positive one. I've never been a Calzaghe / Kessler nuthugger. I'm just a boxing fan. I like both those fighters and I like Ward too. I was actually one of the first ones on this board to say that Ward was the goods. When people were still saying he was ****.
The commentators were actually trying to find a reason to give Kessler some props. Constantly saying, "it's early..it's early". "Kessler...is getting closer with his left". He landed a handful of hard shots all night, and I couldn't find a reason to give him one round. He was dominated.
I agree it was one-sided, but not ridiculous to give Kessler two rounds. That's all. Greg is a great young poster, so I respect his opinion and that. It could be that I feel while rooting for the fighter I want that if he doesn't exceed my expectations a round I feel the need to give the opponent the round. When I gave Kessler a round, I was being generous. That's for sure. You know, I've been mistaken. It appears I only give 1 round to Kessler and that was round 5. I did however score 2 rounds a draw. The rest, Ward. My mistake Addie.
