One story is that before ketchel turned pro he was a child hobo and he worked in a mines, later he worked outside casinos but sometimes ketchel would set up a makeshift ring and anyone who payed him 20 dollars could fight him no matter how big or small and ketchel had many men carried out because they were either unconscious or just not capable of walking, many people also said that ketchel street fights numbered in the 100s and hardly ever lost.
