The Jones that beat Tarver was much worse than the one that Calzaghe beat. That Jones could only fight 30 seconds of every round and constantly looked to retreat to the ropes to catch his breath. Calzaghe would have beaten that version of Jones even worse than the one he beat at Madison square garden.

Naaah that's his style and tactic against Tarver who was also bigger and stronger than Joe, his condition wasn't better against Joe. Of course Roy had more speed and power when he fought Tarver, and who knows what would've happened if Roy had the speed and power from 4 years before when he knocked Joe down in the first round? If Joe would've been able to get up he would be very shaky and Roy would jump right on him.

:good And even if it was that many, how many of Calzaghe's fights where punch stats taken, so it wouldn't be a reliable source to claim it was a career high. :deal

I know what you mean, but i'm not biased against the lower weights ...it's just that i'm not that familiar with them.

If you have a problem with the lack of old-timers on my list, it's because i don't think it makes sense to rank guys that nobody born in the past 70 years has ever seen fight, like greb.

When someone looks incredible on limited footage, was regarded as one of the best of his era and seemingly has no writeups to contradict how greatly talented they were, then yes I can give the benefit of doubt.

I'm sorry for the late reply on the SMW thread, but work has been crazy for the last two weeks. I've hardly had a minute.

But I'll try and reply this week. :good

What's shocking, is you hyping Joe's win over a near 40 year old Roy, after Joe had admitted on numerous occasions that he didn't want the fight because Roy was washed up.

No, Joe wouldn't have beaten the 2003 version of Roy that beat Tarver.

    Do you know why?

Because he'd never have fought him.

In the same year that Roy beat Ruiz and Tarver, Joe was claiming that he wouldn't want to risk it against Roy, unless he got paid the Crown Jewels, because he knew what his capabilities were.

While Roy was trying to get the Ruiz fight signed, Joe was fighting Jiminez and Pudwell.

With regards to him beating a prime Roy, he'd have had zero chance.

    Footwork - Roy
    Hand speed - Roy
    Accuracy - Roy
    Reflexes - Roy
    Defence - Roy
    Power - Roy
    Shot variation - Roy
    Timing - Roy

Joe was always susceptible to right hands and having a careless tear up.

    An accident waiting to happen.

Not that Joe would ever have fought a prime Roy, but if he had've done, it would have been an easy nights work for Roy.
