Posters who Predicted Hopkins to Beat Pavlik

Slow start for both men...both trying to guage speed and acclimate to their opponents quickness and reflexes....By Round 3 Joe ups his punch out put a lot....sitting down more on his shots...Jones using the Jab very effectively sets up his quick right hands and eventully begins to land with lead rights to Joe's head and body. The speed ends up being a huge advantage for the older Roy jones who by round 6 in a close fight lands the more meaningful punches...Joe lands and throws more...I beleive this fight ends by KO....Jones by left hook set up by one of those lead rights or by an uppercut off the left hook and ends the night by Round 9 or 10. Up to the time of stoppage it's a fairly even fight with Jones ahead by a slim margin.:deal :hey

 

If Rjj is not shot to pieces I predict him to UD Joe.

I think he still has enough left in the tank to take this.

 

Speed! at 39 Jones Jr. is as fast as Joe was at his best...(Serveral yrs ago)
According to 24/7 Joe think's he is gonna outbox Roy, Bad move.

Calzaghe's best bet would be to attempt to swarm Jones..
If he get's into a chess or fencing match with Jr. it's gonna be a long night for Joe.

 

I called Hopkins-Pavlik for Hopkins... but honestly I don't see how one CAN predict a winner for Calzaghe-Jones. There's just no telling which Jones will show up to fight. He says, and acts like he will fight like he used to, if thats the case I think he can beat Calzaghe, possibly even knock him out on a counter. But if he fights as timid as he has his past few fights, then I think Calzaghe will win a decision. The version of him that fought Trinidad was deceptively good, he wasn't as flashy as he used to be, and wasn't as much of a force offensively.. but his counters were very dangerous, and he punched VERY accurately, with good enough power. If that version is the one that shows up... I think its very hard to tell. I suspect if that Roy shows up, that Roy COULD knock out Calzaghe on a counter, but Calzaghe will still be able to swamp him with activity because once Roy's only way to deal with Calzaghe's combinations is to cover up and probably end up laying on the ropes. I don't think Calzaghe will be able to knock out Jones.

 

I picked Hopkins because of Pavliks style. I like Roy because he can still do some things that Joe can't. **** all the 'shot' comments. Jones can still punch! Hard and Fast! If his legs were shot Calzaghe has nothing to expose it with. RJJ is not Jeff Lacy.If you think Joe is going to land 1/10 of that many punches on RJJ you might wanna keep your bets in the tens or hundreds column. He might even stop Joe.

 

I said from the outset that Hopkins would beat Pavlik and fairly easily. I never viewed Pavlik as an A level fighter, and never saw him show the ability to adapt, which he would have had to do against Hopkins. He couldn't do it.

I think it will be a fairly entertaining fight, and Roy will see the final bell but Calzaghe will win handily. Roy is a shadow of what he once was, and won't be able to keep up with Calzaghe's workrate. Jones doesn't have the power to knock Joe out, in my opinion.

 

I've saved this post so when Joe wins a clear decision, I will be able to get your afterthoughts on the fight. You let your heart rule your head.

 

I am in awe of the amount of posters here who seem to have forgotten RJJ's last 7 fights. The last impressive win that Roy Jones Jr. had at Light Heavyweight was against Clinton Woods in 2002. The fact that some are actually favoring Roy can only be explained by either complete delusion or a not so sub-conscious bias against Joe Calzaghe. If this fight is at all close at any point, it will only be because Joe lets it be close, not wanting to denigrate his, and I repeat HIS CHOICE, for in all likelihood the last opponent of his career. Aside from the money, this is a no-win situation for anyone involved.
RJJ - Because he can't win.
Joe - Because even when he wins, few American fans will give him credit for it.
B-Hop - When Roy loses, it takes away from any possible rematch with Roy.

Fantasy: That Jones has a chance to win.

Reality: Jones is a sacrificial lamb happy to cash out on his once stellar career.

 

Jones will surprise, I believe he will outclass Joe

 

I didn't think bhop had that much left in his tank, especially because he gassed against Cal late in the fight. I thought he finally got old in that fight. I've never been so happy to be dead wrong.

 

I predicted a ko for BHop but close enough

 

I didn't predict that B-Hop would beat Pavlik, but I said that the old man shouldn't be counted out. A pick'em fight. I say exactly the same for Roy Jones-Calzaghe. Obviously Calzaghe has a different style than Pavlik, and he fights at his weight, but in the end it depends if Roy can bring his A game and turn back time once again, like B-Hop did. If he does, he will win, if not well... i won't make a prediction, all I say is don't count Roy out in this one. And I'll root for him.
