1) Lucas is 5'8 1/2 2) Viktor won because of movement, combination punching, effective body punching, and a very good jab. He also showed a solid chin from taking LMs best punches.
I haven't been following Postol. I couldn't believe the measurements when I heard them. I hate guys like him who have five inch reach and height advantages on all of their opponents. Matthysse is a normal sized light welterweight. Postol should be fighting at super middleweight. You need someone with very special skills to overcome those kinds of size deficits. Unfortunately, good as Matthysse is, he doesn't have those kinds of skills. However, I'd love to see if Pacquiao still could at this phase of his career. Lara or Mayweather could. Rigondeaux did in one of his recent fights, but he's too small for Postol. Crawford might be able to pull it off, but that remains to be seen.
I'm seeing 5'6.5" everywhere I check: boxrec, wikipedia, etc. Normal height for a light welterweight. 5'8" is full welter size. 5'9" is junior middle size. 5'10" is middleweight and 5'11" is super middleweight and the height of Postol.
Postol came into the ring at about 148 lbs. for the Aydin fight. He's not by any means a large weight cutter. Also, this is a WEIGHT DIVISION, not height division.
In fact, I think Matthysse outweighed him last night. This nonsense about him being smaller is hilarious.
The fight should have ended due to headbutt and went to the scorecards. It definitely wasn't a legit TKO. Imam is going to KO this billy goat.
The size helped, no doubt, and was a big factor. But the fighters still need to execute a gameplan. That's the nature of boxing, and sport in general..... making the best of the advantages you have.
