This is about the best summary of the meaning of this term I have ever seen. Succinct and to the point. Well done!:good
If you gain 10lbs you notice a difference in your speed and agility . . . it is measurable. yes you can measure you strength and power increase if you put on more muscle as well. So why is it so unreasonable to adjust between weight classes? ALi was fleet of foot as a heavyweight, so was a young larry holmes. the great heavies where fluid in thier motion even though they were larger men. and there skill set matches quite nicely with the smaller men of there era. LL and joe louis could also be added to list. DO not get upset if you are a fan of the current crop of clumsy skillless lot in the heavyweight division. Pac has extremly fast hands and foot work for his weight class therefor if he were a heavywieight he would have equally fast hands for heavyweight. if he were the same weight as wlad, he would be shorter and not have as long a reach but do you not think he would do the same thing he did to that punk ******* margocheato to any of these heavies? you do not think a master boxer like Floyd mayweather would not easily out box the 1-2 of wlad? come on really think about that you could go down the list of any of the top 20 p4p fighters in the world and you would come to the same realization . . . the current crop of heavies suck!!!
Interesting. Was just thinking. We scale up to Wlads size atm to measure the P4P list. Floyd is fast so his speed scales up to a fast heavy. So if Wlad is the fastest and most powerful 6'6 fighter the sport has seen (debatable but not far off the mark) then he must carry that same advantage if we scale him down to the size of the other guys on the list. So he would be the fastest, most powerful 5'6 fighter the sport has seen. Add in the accuracy, stamina, footwork etc...... and this would make for some very interesting fights for the top P4P kings.
that would be fascinating BUT, wlad's only advantage is his size. if he was the same weight as pac pac would easily be more faster, better foot work, more stamina and accuracy. besides your assesment of wlad is way to high, lennox had everything he has and much more. LL could throw more than a 1-2. the basic 1-2 that wlad throws would not stand up against anyone in a lighter division. do not get me wrong the bros are the best in this era by far. I do not hold their size advantage against them in the division no more than I can hold the fact that Jordan in the NBA could jump higher and was quicker than everyone else. The bros are the best in the glamour division for the forseeable future. I give them credit for using the natural abilities and advantages to dominate (unlike Pwill . . . who is fighting the totally wrong style for his size). but all that does not make them great boxers or even very good boxers (which wlad admits) . . .he is just the best of a very bad lot. if either bros was 147 pounds could you see either of them dominating the division? they would lose much of their overwhelming advatages first of all and second they do not have the skill to compete with people who would be faster, quicker and a better set of skills. old man bhop would school them both even though they would have every physical advantage possible . . . thats skill . . . thats p4p (and I really do not bhop)
Wlad totally dominates the sport with three punches and I can't think of a champ that gets hit less. Sounds like a master boxer to me. All other heavies on the planet are made to look like kids when fighting this guy. Even if your truly cynical about the current Heavyweight talent pool when compared to past era's you can't believe the disparity is that major. These guys are professionsals with decades of experience in the sport. Wlad is the problem that the Heavyweight talent pool faces. Take him and his bro out of the sport and it starts to look like any other era.
I guess we are gonna have to agree to disagree. Oh well, guess that's the real point of P4P lists. Create discussion and interest about fighters, regardless of size.
the look like kids because the are so much smaller . . . lol. a good big man will beat a good (or might i say crappy) small man any day. even with the bros this era is by far the worse era in the heavyweight division i have ever seen . . . bar none! seriously wtf was haye doing in the ring the last fight!? I think Haye had the natural tools to beat wlad K (speed, quickness and power) but he did not have the skill to do it. to beat a big man you need to use YOUR jab and head movement to get inside, cut off the ring and control the distance (stay on the inside). Finally work the body and time those slow punches by wlad. Haye did not fight like a "small" man similar to Pwill who does not fight like a big man and therefore he squandered advatanges. BTW, yes this era of heavyweight boxing is by far the worst i have ever seen. Manny has done a half way decent job with trying to ake the bros into the poor mans version of Lennox Lewis but outside of that not one of these guys would stand a chance in any other era . . . except for maybe adameck who i think has great potential . . . but it is only that potential and he still needs to evolve and be refined.
So you think the talent in the sport is at its lowest point in a century? I reckon Haye had the tools to do the job too. I also think that he got beat because he and Booth totally underestimated one of Wlads key physical attributes. Speed. People always go on about neutralizing Wlads jab as being key to beating him. Well Haye came closer than most to doing it but still couldn't get his shots off properly. Wlads speed was too much. The guy went toe to toe with the fastest in the division and beat him at his own game. That kind of defense makes everyone look bad so he is not a Poor man's Lewis by any stretch. Also the talent pool is not that bad. You make it out like our current crop get beat every year by their counterparts for the last century. Haye's a talented fighter who would make short work of many top contenders from many past era's. He's not the only one in the division. Not even close. Wonder how many years out of the past century the top three guys beat Wlad, Vit and Haye. Not many I would suggest.
