Which boxer in history jumped several weight classes and made an utter fool of himself in all of them?
There was a fighting Frenchman who went up all the original weight classes, can't recall his name off hand, so that's like 20 weight classes or so in the modern era! Don't remember hearing of him becoming champion per class, so yeah, he's kinda clown-ish but not at all lacking in the heart/ and ambition departments
Are you referring to Georges Carpentier? He contested fights in every division from Fly to HW. Whilst no ATG, he was much better than a clown and won the world title at LHW (albeit he was never the best LHW in the world, imo) and the European title at HW.
Carpentier was a true boxing icon, for his dedication to boxing if not for his in-ring abilities. He was also a boxing referee when he was younger. And I really love light-heavyweight boxing in the 1920s - so many names to remember from that decade - Carpentier, Levinsky, Siki, Loughran, Greb, Tunney, Delaney and younger versions of Rosenbloom and Stribling.
Yes, the 20's is a great era for LHW. Greb is my #2 all time, Tunney #3, Loughran #9 and Jack Delaney #12. That's 25% of my tip 12 from the 20's right there.
