I have been following boxing for most of my life and just had a question, what makes a boxer qualify for the pound for pound list? I understand the concept but looking at the current boxers on the list none of them are fighting top in their prime fighters. I think Sergio Martinez is fighting top prime guys but neither Pac or May are fighting top guys. Last fight with a prime top prospect for Pac was 08 (JMM) and as far I can tell FMJ last opponent that was prime was possible the 07 Hatton fight and that is even questionable since he didn't do that well against Collazo. Just a question.....
I think that there is 3 things people looks at when ranking fighters P4P 1. Dominance (pacquiao. klitschko brothers) 2. Big wins/epic runs (Martinez, Froch) 3. Great ability (Mayweather, Ward)
P4P is really just a question and how you answer that question is up to you. "If all of the fighters are the same weight, who would be ranked the highest" Contrary to popular belief it is NOT a H2H (if PBF and Ward where the same weight who would win). But YOU can certainly take that in to consideration. Many but not all do. Traditionally, resume (short and long term), performance, talent, skill, and H2H are the common components of making of a P2P list. Some consider skills higher than resume. It is all up to you. I usually : resume (60%) performance (10%) skill and talent (20%) H2H (5%) intangibles (5%)
Does dominance count if you are dominating people who dont really put up a fight? Or who are simply tailor made to make you look more ferocious? I think Pac is gonna blow throw JMM. so would that be considered a "dominant" performance?
By dominance i simply just mean dominating/cleaning up your division.. Pacquiao and the Klitschko brothers has been dominating their divisions to a point where people have started making threads about when they lost rounds last.
