WBC and their incompetence ruined it. Is he illegal ? Isn't he? Ruling coming? No ruling yet.

And Wilder gets to pick his opponents and they magically get a top 15 ranking.

Yup, Wilder vs Povetkin was one of the fights I was looking forward to this year the most.

Totally ruined. I don't even like Wilder but come on, you can't expect him to fight someone who's tested hot.

Illegal substance, banned starting Jan 1. It's proven that he took it post Jan, 3 positive tests Early April. Tested positive mid April :rofl

Even if I accepted your Wilder licking view on that, which I don't btw, he was still 15 times under the limit set by the world doping agency. That's the problem your windmilling window licker  is going to have when the case is heard. 1. His opponent was clean. 2 Wilder walked away illegally and broke a contract. 3. His injured ass means he can't even make a fight. All spells a hefty bill he can't dream to pay. Result, Wilder broke and pushing mops with you and Jizy at some Bama kfc.

I'm getting sick of seeing people not understand what happened. So let's get the story straight here before we get into a debate:

Povetkin took tests on April 7th, 8th, and 11th which detected nothing.

Povetkin took another test on April 27th that detected 70 ng (0.07 ug) of meldonium in his system. A very low ammount.

Meldonium had only just been banned as a substance on Jan 1, 2016. Any use of the drug prior to that date is acceptable.

Several (usually Russian) athletes had openly admitted to taking meldonium for years or even decades prior to the ban. Povetkin has admitted to taking meldonium up until September 2015.

Because the ban was so recent, WADA gave the condition that anything less than 1 ug of meldonium was acceptable (Povetkin tested at 0.07 ug).

WADA gave this condition because drugs may take a while to leave the body. Meaning the drug may still be detectable in May 2016, even if you only took it in September 2015, through no fault of the boxer.

The problem is that Povetkin was clean in earlier tests. If he had truly not taken meldonium since Septmber 2015, how did he test clean on the 7th, 8th, and 11th of April, then suddenly test positive on April 27th?

    That is the issue.

The "under 1 ug" rule stops applying because he should have had detectable amounts in all 4 April tests.

Hypothetically, if all 4 tests in April had detected 0.70 ug of meldonium (10x what he actually tested for), then he would be considered a clean boxer and the fight would have proceeded normally.

So there are a couple possibilities I can think of:

    1. He took Meldonium after the test on April 11th.
    2. The tests he took in early April somehow missed the meldonium.
    3. The rate that drugs leave the body is complicated, meaning it could be higher at some points than others. Many drugs are stored in the body for long periods while slowly being released. And there are some theories exercise may increase that release.

Personally, I think the holdup is that they can't figure out how sure they can be that Povetkin didn't take the drug when it was legal.

Povetkin could easily have been taking the drug for decades prior to its ban, and having a good understanding of how the drug leaves the body after decades of use is impossible at this point.

So the WBC will be forced to decide they can't be sure. Then it's either:

    1. Ban him because we can't take risks like this and appear soft, even if he is innocent.
    2. Let him fight because we can't be sure.

    EDIT:
As noted by Dreamking, Povetkin took a test on May 17th, 2016 that showed no meldonium. Unfortunately, I don't know what we can conclude from that, but it is worth noting.

You can blame WBC and WADA not Wilder or Povetkin. They cant fight on their own.
