There are a lot of people in here who think that Byrd will last the distance against Povetkin (and even some maniacs who are confident he will outclass him), so I just wanted to take this opportunity to punish them for overrating Byrd and underrating Povetkin, by forcing them to use avatars that I have created.

So here's how it will work:

If the fight goes the full 12 rounds or if Byrd magically wins by TKO/DQ/TD, then I will use any avatar that you guys collectively choose for [2 days X (the number of people participating in betting against me)].

If Povetkin wins and the fight doesn't go the full 12 rounds, then each of you will use an avatar I will provide for just 1 week, starting from Monday.

So if you're confident that the fight will go the distance or you think I'm a nuthugger who needs to get rid of his avatar, then please sign your name in this thread.

Bonus: If Byrd actually knocks Povetkin out (not corner retirement due to injury), I will have any avatar you choose for a year (and probably close this account from embarassment).

It's also 2 in the morning in the west and 5 in the east right now. I'm gonna go to sleep and when I wake up hopefully there will be at least a few people.

I have a good avatar ready too.

I have to keep my avatar safe till Kessler Calzaghe. Piggy will not KO byrd. He'll win a boring 12 round decision. I bet with my vcash in this case.

i think povetkin is gonna win and pretty clearly but only a decision maybe 8-4ish. byrd is too slick and since povetkin didnt come close to stopping an ancient donald, i doubt we will see a ko. when have we seen any hw other than wlad win impressively and in devastating fashion. not for a while. he stops byrd, he becomes a top 5 easily. i have him #10 right now.

sign me up. i take the week bet.

I'm more inclined to go with Huki on this. Povetkin is a talent, but I'm not ruling out Byrd, that man's got skills and experience.

I wonder what people will say if Povetkin finishes both Byrd and Brock before round 7. It took Wlad this long with them.
I know the chances of it happening are very small, just a thought though.

yeah. make with the avatar your boy put on a solid performance. pretty weak stoppage but a bet is a bet a i lost. :yep

very impressed w/his workrate and aggression. however, seems very hitable and has to be set to land effectively. lacks big power. stationary target. imo, capable of beating anyone sans wlad.

Here's a link to your new avatars:

I was going to give a different avatar, but the match had a really good chance of lasting the distance if Byrd's dad didn't throw in the towel, so I'll just let you guys have a John Ruiz avatar for a week. The fight was more difficult for Povetkin that I thought it would be and Byrd was less shot than I thought he was. He made a big error in round 4 when he threw almost 100 punches, which were mostly missed/blocked power shots to the head and I was glad to see he was able to recover stamina-wise from all of that quickly, unlike many other young HW's. I was also impressed by how he got a second wind from the 8th round on and kept the constant pressure on Byrd instead of just doing enough to win the final rounds. That is what ultimately made Papa Byrd throw in the towel. If he didn't step it up late in the fight I would have lost a lot on the under too, so I'm thankful for that. Before the match, I thought Povetkin would pick his shots more and throw a lot of body punches instead of throwing endless combos to Byrd's head and get a mid-late stoppage. But overall, it was a solid performance with a few mistakes by Povetkin and the result was a great learning experience. I am still extremely confident that Povetkin will knock out Klitschko after he easily beats the winner of Brock/Chambers and will become the recognized #1 HW before the end of 2008.

Enjoy your ATG Ruiz avatars for a week!

Did you have him winning every round?

No, I gave a few to Byrd, but Povetkin was dominating him for most of the match, so I wasn't worried about him losing at any point.
