Hey guy, impressive win over Byrd for Povetkin. I haven't seen the fight, so if anyone has it let me know. I have to point out here though that as impressive a victory as it is, here are some valid points about Byrd. -Byrd clearly lost to Oquendo and was gifted a decision. Even BYRD was suprised he got that decision. -Byrd clearly lost to Golota based on the fact that Byrd's gloves touched the canvas FOUR times in that fight and the referee didn't call any of them a knockdown. When you touch the canvas based on a punch, that is a knockdown. -Byrd could have easily lost the McCline fight in which he was knocked down in the process. -Byrd was TKO'd for a second time in his career by Klitschko. So, all in all, it is a good win for Povetkin but not anything that a few other boxers haven't been able to do to Chris Byrd over the last 4-5 years.
Still, Byrds a tricky southpaw with a lot of experience as an amatuer and a pro.I figured that would be too much for the pudgy Russian, but I was wrong.So, for a guy with 13 fights to beat a guy like Byrd , is impressive.
It is a very good win, especially after only 13 fights. But he was never in danger of loosing this fight, Byrd doesnt test your chin and he isnt even all that awkward anymore. This fight is more of a record padder than a genuine gauge of Povetkin's ability. And when I say record padder, thats a relative term, this fight was an eliminator against far more experienced fighter but I just dont think it was the kind of 50-50 fight that really means something in the scheme of things, you know a fight he could have potentially lost. His next fight should be a much sterner test, even if he does win it easier, Chambers and Brock are more of a threat then the current version of Byrd.
I predict an absolut beating for Chambers by the hands of Povetkin - never mind, CHambers will loose to Brock this Friday...

Povetkin is obviously a bad style match for Brock so it is very likely that he will get the beating you have predicited. As for the predicted outcome on Friday, I am not sure your crystal ball is working so well on that one.
Povetkin spent his whole career, starting from a pro-kickboxing Euro championship (was he 19 at the point?) at heavyweight. He is quite big all-right. He is bigger the Chagaev, and you saw what Chagaev did to Valuev. Povetkin has better skills. He will embarrass overrated Peter. Wlad will probably KO Povetkin at this point of time, but that will not be a walk in the park for him. In all his distinguished career Wlad never faced anybody as versatile and smart in the ring.
I don't want to repeat myself but if Povetkin can get into close range as Wlad tries to clinch, the big man have to clinch hard because if Povetkin lets his hand go (especially the uppercut) then Wlad would be in for a long night...
1. Yes, Oquendo most probably should have won that fight, but Byrd won the later rounds and Oquendo really didn't do enough to earn the title. 2. The draw against Golota was a good decision, it was a draw or a one point either way fight. FACTS are that Byrd kept his title, and the "glove touching" that AG's rabid supporters trot out from time-to-time means two things: jack and squat. 3. "Could have easily" does not mean "did." Yes, Byrd was knocked down in the second against McCline, but there were 11 other rounds in that fight. You might try watching those rounds and then re-adding your scorecard. 4. Yup, he sure was tko'd twice by Wlad. So what? He also made Vitali quit, beat Holyfield, had a dominant performance over Tua, and held the IBF title for 3 1/2 years. Facts are, Chris Byrd was a very good heavyweight with great skills, and the Povetkin win is impressive considering Byrd's pedigree and even despite his advanced age. It's a nice win for AP.
Povetkin, for only having 13 fights, did an excellent job. He wore Byrd down and stopped him. Good win for him.
Exactly... Povetkin winning with only 13 fights under his belt doesn't say much for Byrd. He's always been a bit over-rated. And frankly, even if Byrd never touched canvas against Golota, he still lost, period.
