If AJ gets the same ref as vs. Parker then Povetkin has no chance of getting close to him.

Joshua is a stiff bum compared to povetkin, it’s just size.

    I wouldn't rule it out.

AJ seems to have changed his attitude and style a little bit in my opinion, less aggressive and starting to box more.

Maybe the fight with Klitschko did some mental damage or knocked his confidence, he was dropped and looked out on his feet, maybe he is a little gunshy in the sense he don't want to risk getting caught with anything half decent.

He wasn't overly aggressive against Takam and he boxed more, he wasn't aggressive against Parker and he boxed even more.

So Povetkin has a chance, I'd still pick AJ but it's Heavyweight boxing and Povetkin has decent power.

I wouldn't underestimate Povetkin, Wilder is afraid of him for sure, Haymon made sure Povetkin did not get to knock Wilder out even after VADA cleared him........................Povetkin might be fighting Joshua next as he is mandatory................

    I mean, he can, sure...

Lemieux also can knock out Canelo, doesn't mean that is how it would likely go.

Povetkin is better than Parker or Wilder for sure. Joshua will be a difficult fight unless Joshua fights Povetkin like he did Parker.......................and even then it will not be easy. Povetkin could fool everyone, but he is getting old................

Joshua has fought more cautiously the last 2 fights, but both Takam and Parker fought very defensive. Alot of future opponents know of Anthony's power, so I imagine we'll see more frequent late stoppages and decision wins. Can't see Povetkin fighting to survive, which probably will be his undoing. I suspect the bodybuilder Clubber Langs him, when the Russian tries getting aggressive. The disparity of power will be evident when neither start backing up.

Yeah as he's developed over time he's altered his approach. He was far more aggressive before Whyte too. After that he started to develop a more boxer style instead of puncher.

He tried to box Wlad too, didn't just go in swinging but Wlad old manned him and took him to the brink so Joshua had to dig deep.

I think we'll see a more cautious Joshua since he's had these scares vs Whyte and Wlad but if he's ever pushed to the brink again he'll fall back and rely on his power to bail him out when needed.

I think that's what we'll see vs Povetkin. Joshua boxes, doesn't look to engage a great deal, but if Povetkin drops him or hurts him or starts winning then Joshua will try and turn things around with his power.

I think he's simply responding to moving up to the highest level of opposition. He could and probably should've lost to Wlad. No shame in that, but if he had done he'd have looked back on his performance and realised that he never needed to be in that position. He has the gifts to win fights without running quite so many risks.

As fr Povetkin, I think he'll easily be the second best opponent AJ will have faced and arguably the best at this stage of their respective careers. He's a very dangerous combination of power and skill. He could definitely knock AJ out if he lands a clean enough shot and he'll be difficult to outbox also. AJ will have an advantage in reach and six but he will need to be at his best to make it count.

I was referring to overall 'skills'!

Alexander Povetkin has better feints. Has better ability to set his power punches and knockout punches up. Has better timing and accuracy. Especially when it comes to landing power punches and knockout punches. Basically, Povetkin is the more offensively skilled boxer overall.

If you claim that Anthony Joshua is a more powerful puncher than Alexander Povetkin. Then Povetkin HAS to be the more offensively skilled boxer. You can't have it any other way!

Povetkin also has the better head movement too. His jab is definitely deficient. But his left hook is far superior to Joshua's. And the right hands are comparable (although they're different)

And in terms of speed, Povetkin at age 38 looked faster in his last fight than prime 27 year old Joshua did in his last fight. So no, Joshua isn't faster. At best, they're about even. At worst, Povetkin is faster.

And in terms of footwork, Povetkin can move in and out. He doesn't always stay in the pocket. Sometimes he retreats. Though he can only fight on the inside and at mid range and not on the outside. So Joshua has Povetkin beat, only on the outside. Povetkin is the superior inside fighter.

Povetkin is the better combination puncher because he is more ambidextrous. He has equal power on both hands and has more knockout feats with both hands. Whilst most of Joshua's stoppages come from his right hand.

Joshua should still win because of his size advantage. But if Joshua was bigger in size and was also more skilled, this would be a total mismatch in which Povetkin should look like an absolute bum and be beaten like a bum by Joshua. But if the fight is at all competitive, then it'd prove that Povetkin is the more skilled boxer (since he is much smaller) whilst Joshua would be winning due to his significant size advantage.
