Povetkin - Chambers - your scores and now with a poll: IMPRESSIVE OR NOT IMPRESSIVE?

I remember debating the possible outcome of this fight months ago with people on this forum. I picked Chambers to win a close a decision, and apparently he at least came close, or made it a marginal fight according to what some say. I seem to recall some of the posters here claiming that Povetkin was going to knock Eddie out in less than 5 rounds or some ****.

 

Yes. Povetkin clearly dominated the last three rounds today, although Chambers won the 9th. Chambers defense is sound, and his punches are sharp, but Povetkin's far superior workrate won the fight..

That's going a little far, Chambers does not need to retire, he just needs to move down to cruiserweight. So far, all the top conteders Chambers has fought are all bigger than him. The way he looks he seems fit for cruiserweight.

 

Well I mean retire only because of the fact that after round 3 he barely did anything. He just stood there in defence without any fighting spirit...even in the last rounds when he needed a KO he did not do anything! He didn't seem to care about hitting his opponent, but that is what boxing is about: hit your opponent.

And it was not because he was tired. Really weird and embarassing performace imo.

 

Agreed. The man is only 25 years old, and was previously unbeaten in 30 fights. He just lost a close decision to one of the division's hottest young talents. I don't know what that other poster was thinking about when he said that Chambers needs to retire. Like you say, he could be very successful at cruiserweight or even fight on the fringes of the heavyweight picture. Either way, his career is far from over, and he may even have time to improve a bit.

 

115-113 is far too close.Povetkin dominated most of the rounds,and the last two ones quite easily.Though he had to take some good shots Povetkin did a pretty good job most of the time outworking Chambers.By the way Chambers took quite a few murderous body shots.

 

Omgatsch First of all the decision wasn't close.

Second and most important: chambers is good and has much talent. He surprised me.

BUT, if you almost stop punching after three rounds, showing no desire to win, no effort to hit your opponent, and no spirit to engage, THEN it's better to retire otherwise wtf are you doing inside that ring. So for my part he stays at heavyweight but he's gotta do what a boxer does: punching.

That was what I ment my friend.

What's sad is that chambers almost hit povetkin AT WILL with that right hand in the first three rounds.

 

Povetkin 115-113. Chambers clearly won rds 1-3 and 9. Rds 8 and 10 were very close.

 

Fightnews is usually provincial, but with this fight they had Povetkin winning big!!!

"the clean accurate punches" blah. Not a fan of the crisp punches, the guy who throws beats the guy who doesn't. I saw it 9 to 3.
