Povetkin gave Joshua boxing lesson. He definitely outboxed AJ

The fight was pretty even IMO, however Joshua's power made all the difference in the end.

Credit to Povetkin though. I really enjoyed this HW contest

 

I didn't agree with Froch which I agree was home town punditry, but I was just about with Haye having Joshua narrowly ahead and I thought his comments in between the rounds were good too. Either that or a draw. Joshua mentioned jabbing to the body in his in ring interview so it must've been key to the plan.

 

When he lit up Joshua at the end of the first you could see the shock in Joshua's eyes I agree. If that had happened at the start of the second who knows. Joshua needed that bell in the first though.

 

Size does matter after all. Povetkin did very well in the first three but as the fight progressed AJ started to find the target more often. It might be that AJ made adjustments or Povetkin felt the burden of his age.

 

Joshua is proving his quality against top quality opposition, the best British HW run of all time thus far IMO.

 

It’s pretty obvious what happened. The tactic for AJ was to go easy and not throw too many power shots in the first 6 rounds and let his youth prevail. After 6 rounds it was either 4-2, 3-2-1 or 3-3 in Povetkin’s favour. AJ also worked to the body to slow him down. Povetkin had superior hand speed and has better technique. Povetkin wanted to get him out early as well as he knew at 39, he would fade down the stretch.

 

Well AJ hit him with a Beautiful combination and you see what happened, it was a old school boxer that was motivated and he gave a good account of his self but the better fighter won give him his respect.

 

if he hadnt got ktfo then who knows.

If he hadnt taken PEDs then who knows he'd never have got a title shot in his career.

 

I wouldnt call it a lesson but he certainly gave him and McCracken plenty to think about and work on. If anybody was still under the illusion that Joshua is an unstoppable monster and elite Boxer then Joshuas weakness must surely have been exposed to them last night. Im sure the rest of us already know them.

At the end of the day he stopped Povetkin, game over, 1st to do it and he stuck to his gameplans and executed them as well as he could, and yes Povetkin is 39 but thats his age its not a shot or not indicator. Povetkin still beats near enough all other current top 20 heavyweights including Wilder and maybe a fully fit Fury. So congratulations to my man Anthony Joshua, i am very much a fan of his and it was a hell of a scalp to put on his excellent short resume. And a good fight for us after Takam and Parker drew some critisizm.

But like i said before the fight, Povetkin is technically a better Boxer than Anthony Joshua and it showed. He couldnt keep the Russian at bay with his jab, it was not an impressive jab last night although the chest jabs seemed to do their job well, He was suspect to those wide rising hooks of Povektin, all these things were because techically Povetkin is a classier operator. But he got past all that and got the job done. That in itself is deserves credit.

 

And it got him KOed !

Or he was biding his time until the opportunity's presented themselves. And when they did it was all over within a few minutes.

 

These AJ haters really can't handle seeing AJ remain king of the division. I watched the fight this morning. Povetkin fought well but calling it a boxing lesson. That's just ridiculous. The finish by AJ was superb!

 

The one big thing I saw was the difference in stance. I don't think I've ever seen AJ fight like that before. I didn't see the high guard once. Shows AJ is a better boxer than most people think. They got the weight spot on, the tactics spot on. He came in a little heavier and that meant he could absorb those hooks better, while still having some movement speed available. And leaving those hands low to bait Povetkin's hooks in and then counter did him a world of good there. He didn't quite counter as much as he would have liked, but the strategy worked for the most part. Rob and AJ should be given massive credit for figuring out an olympic gold medallist like that.

AJ has improved massively. He will beat Deontay Wilder, but it won't be by KO at all. It'll be by an absolute schooling, where Deontay is beaten up and bruised by that jab. That jab is like GGG's jab, sends those heads back flying. But it's also so dangerous to the body too. And I have a feeling if Tyson Fury fought AJ, the fight would be so much closer than a few years ago. I wouldn't be surprised at all if AJ gets a close points decision.

 

Here we go again. This non-sensical argument. We had this 1000 times with Wlad Klitschko. Please, not again.
