I think Povetkin's original quote was something like "If they change the olympic rules so that pro's can come back in certain division's, then I'd love to go back and fight for my country"
Please tell me you're joking??? This is some crazy stuff here if true...Atlas is really screwing Povetkin...Or Povetkin is just acting like a *****. I've never seen a challenger shy away from a title shot...Whats the point of becoming a pro-fighter if you're gonna go back to the Amateurs?:rofl
Yes, it simply does not make any sense at all. Even if he is not ready for Wlad, he can still make more than one milion $$$ (roughly estimate), no matter what will be the outcome - and if he loses, he is still top contender and may get another titleshot relatively quickly (like Peter with his 3 shots against Klitschkos). If he goes amateur again (for the sake of argument let's assume it would be possible), the only way to get semi-serious money is to get a medal. I do not know how much it will be this time, but quick google search said Russia paid about 150 k$ to its golden medalists. So, you have possible 150 k$ vs guaranteed one milion $ (and if you win that one, you'd get MUCH more for the next one). I know what would be my choice, but apparently some people use different logic.
Surely, if theres any chance for it, Ill gladly participate in Summer Olympics once again and Ill try to get another gold medal for my country, said Povetkin. Of course, its only possible if national head coach Nikolay Khromov needs my assistance. Ill have to prove that Im better than existing Russian heavyweights. They are great boxers and nice persons as well. Recently plans were announced to arrange a tournament between those pros, which made their debuts past 2008 to select possible future participants for Summer Olympics in five weight divisions. Another lowering of limits for presently active prizefighters is expected soon. Close enough, now **** off
Crazy. But just as amateur boxers need to adjust to the pro game so do pro boxers need to adjust to the amateur game. Imagine Rigondeaux receiving a US passport and winning a gold medal in 2012:rofl
wow..what a major set back! There must be more to it? Something happened in his life that made him so weak minded and hopeless..Atlas?
