Povetkin Heavily Favored!

Byrd Is Not Shot.............byrd Will Win By 12 Rd Dec.

 

The odds should be -1200 on Povetkin to win. Byrd has zero chance. The fight is in germany and yes, germany does give a lot of **** decisions favoring european fighters, but it won't matter here at all. Povetkin will beat Byrd easily and make him contemplate retirement. Under 11.5 rounds is the bet people need to be looking at. Over 90% chance that it will happen, but sportsbooks think it won't.

 

I would say the same about Byrd's style for Povertkin.

 

What your forgetting is Byrd's string of questionable close decision wins against okay competition. *** Fres Oquendo beat Byrd, Byrd couldn't hide his suprise at his win...... McCline flattened Byrd early and Byrd had to work hard to get the decision win, and McCline always fades, and then Golata drew with Byrd and Golata isn't much above average and those were back in Byrd's prime... Povetkin is probably better than all those fighters... He doesn't seem this pondering heavyweight that Byrd can dance around.

 

Byrd has looked quite good against bigger and less mobile opponents in his long pro career whereas Povetkin had no problems at all against shorter or slighly bigger opponents than himself.
He lost his last fight-at the amteurs-against Koeber(who now fights at the paid ranks,too) ages ago.Koeber is a big fellow with long arms and decent firepower.
Camarelle,one of Povetkin's better foes at the amateurs,is a big fellow,too.
He was always able to make the water a bit hot for Povetkin at the amateurs-at least for one or two rounds.
Byrd's quickness wont be an advantage against Povetkin who can neutralizse most of Byrd's strong weapons and take advantage of his weak spots IMO.
Anyway! Byrd is a foe worthy of Povetkin's steel.I am looking forward to it!

 

Look at that competition! Wlad, McCline, Golata...

Last time I checked, Povetkin logged 10 uninteresting rounds against an old journyman named Larry Donald. Larry Donald is crafty, but not crafty in the same way Byrd is. Povetkin couldn't take him out either. So what I see is basically Povetkin going up against a much better Larry Donald in Byrd. I don't think Byrd is going to give Povetkin a chance to knock him out. The only thing Povetkin may have going for him is the fact that Byrd is defensive in nature and punches in flurries. Ring generalship will go to Povetkin, and a lack of 'work' in the ring might be Byrd's undoing, but a decision is not where Povetkin will want this thing to go.

 

I think you are missing my point. My point isn't that Larry Donald fights with the same style as Byrd. My point is that both Larry Donald and Byrd have a lot of rounds under their belts and they know how to survive in a ring. That being said, I would go further and say that Byrd has a lot more QUALITY rounds than Larry Donald, making him a more formidable foe on paper. Povetkin showed (to me) that he didn't have quite enough experience to break Larry Donald down. What makes you think he will be able to break down Byrd? Furthermore, it has little to do with 'abilty'. Povetkin is going to be a fine boxer and he has a super bright future. I just don't think that at this point in his career he has logged enough rounds to know how to make ring-time adjustments and go about breaking down guys like Bryd. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Byrd will do what he did in the 2nd Wlad fight and get blasted out but I don't think so.

 

I am starting to favor Chambers over Brock, but that is next weeks discussion.
I think IBF did a good job with this tournament. Even if the outcome is defeat by Wlad, these three fights will have my attention for sure.

 

btw, Povetkin got into the ring vs. Donald with a sprained right shoulder...
