I think it was a war. No knockdowns, but ****, these guys fought their heart out. One hell of an exciting battle. The heavyweight division is doing just fine and is overlooked by the media.

This could very well end up as the best heavyweight fight of 2012.

Possible Fight of the year, too? What do you guys think?

Not saying it was quality 'boxing', but it damn sure was Entertaining Fight of The Year (eFOTY), and it was worth the price of admission (37.50 euros).

Too many fouls and dirty fighting IMO for a FOTY candidiate. Plenty of heart and back and forth action yes, but lots to dislike too. Also terrible referee, had he done a better job fight could have delivered cleaner action.

Was the pic taken at a boxing match? The brunette looks like Camilla Belle and her and Sharapova are good friends.

edit - from a gay netball game. Thought they were boxing fans for a minute which would have made them even hotter.

    Yeah.

Povetkin, being the mandatory, ducks the champion long enough for the WBA to just give in and make Klit the "super-champ" and give him a totally worthless paper belt. He thanks the Gods for this blessing by training less and less for each fight, managing to be grotesquely exhausted after 4 rounds of a scheduled 12-rounder against a severely limited cruiserweight.

Before fighting rabbit-puncher Huck, Povetkin fought 42-year-old Cedric Boswell and fellow soft-waisted athlete Ruslan Chagaev. Next up is Hasim Rahman, the practical joke of Don King. And I'm pretty sure the way Russian Boxing is going, Evander Holyfield will get his shot early next year.

Yeah, the HW division is just dandy.

You know boxing is dead when a fight like this gets nominated for fight of the year!!

    :good

Can you name a better, more competitive fight @ heavyweight in recent memory?

Helenius-Chisora was a war too but Povetkin/Huck really entertained me even though it was dirty at times. Both were redy to go at some point almost every round was very competitive.

The fight actually reminds me a lot of Brewster - Liakovich, minus the dirty boxing of course. But that was also a great fight. It's all about the matchmaking really. You don't need ATG boxers to get an entertaining fight.

It was an entertaining battle and fun to watch but it was also sloppy, with poor technique shown by both guys at times.

I enjoyed it but I think the FOTY should be fought at a higher skill level.
