It appears Mr. Povetkin will always suffer the spurn of fans who have been victimized by Mr. Klitschko's reign of terror. The only thing they have more contempt for than the tyrant himself, is those fighters not strong enough to overthrow him.
Glass-jawed LHW Michael Spinx outboxed and embarrassed a fat, washed up Holmes. Povetkin would win a wide wide UD vs. shot Holmes.
Povetkin loses to the fighters with range. Look at his record, never lanky fighters. Lewis, Holmes, Foreman any age, Berbick, Tyson, Vitali beat him, but i'd love to see Povetkin vs Tua
Fat old Foreman lost to Axel Schulz -- a fighter Povetkin would stop inside 6 rounds. Fat old Foreman was down 0 to 10 rounds vs. glass-jawed LHW Michael Moorer before landing a lucky punch. So, no not "any age". Post Holyfield Foreman would lose to Povetkin in a very wide, one-sided UD.
Not according to boxrec I'd agree that Povetkin might struggle, but he's improved hugely and would be competitive with anybody.
There is 2-3 threat for Povetkin. He probably lose to Tyson, but i can easy make a case against everyone else. Tho Povetkin - Tyson would be a hell of a great match.
Tyson - clearly Holmes - also a no brainer Holyfield - he started fighting heavyweight in '88. This young Holyfield was a shade smaller but much quicker and didn't tire quite like the older Holy did. He'd either box circles around Povetkin or if they started to bang stop him late, in short he would dominate Witherspoon - I'd favor the best Spoon by decision. Pinklon Thomas - for a few years he was very solid (until the drugs shortened his prime) the best Thomas who could knock you down with his jab and then put you to sleep with his right, beats AP by dec. Spinks - many of you young cats only remember the Tyson fight. Spinks was awkward as hell and would keep you honest with his "jinx" he was also a master boxer. Spinks wide UD I could make a case for others in this Era but they were so hot and cold. Fighters like Page, Berbick, Bonecrusher, Dokes and Douglas if on all have a shot and most of them in that list with the exception of Buster have strong beards so. A fighter like Bonecrusher who had a big punch would always dangerous, or an awkward strong guy like Berbick who could sometimes defeat and manhandle what might appear to be a more polished fighter like AP. Dokes had great speed in his prime, Page could be a master boxer at times. They all had skills. I'd make Povetkin-****ey a pick Em fight, both fighter could Ko the other. Guys like Carl Williams and Tubbs could box circles around AP but they had questionable chins so nothing is for sure there. Others like Weaver, Bruno or Coetzee could go either way. Those 3 could all bang and those 3 could all be stopped as well.. Tucker - this is an interesting one Tucker seemed to avoid most of the other 80's heavyweights. The rest all fought each other. Tucker was active but he rarely fought another name guy. Douglas was beating him but then pretty much just ran out of gas late and more or less quit. We have to give Tucker high marks for his performance against prime Tyson though. This one I'm undecided on it's a 50-50 fight
Huck was unable to beat a Povetkin in the worst shape of his life. He was there for the taking and Huck couldn't do it.
I respect your opinion, but I don't agree. There's been some very good matches from the last 5 years, and there's some exciting matches to be made today. But as a whole, I think there were better fighters in the 00's. Evander Holyfield - Past his best, but would still be a top 10 fighter today. James Toney - The versions that beat Jirov, Evander, and Ruiz, would be a top 10 fighter today, and better than the likes of Arreola and Stiverne etc. Vitali Klitschko - I think he would be the best fighter along with LL, if around today. Lennox Lewis - Although he was caught against Rahman, I think he would be the no.1 HW if around today. Chris Byrd - A very good fighter, and would probably be top 5 today. Wlad Klitschko - I believe that although he suffered defeats in the early part of the decade, the 00's versions of him were better than the versions of him from the past 5 years. Roy Jones - He obviously only had just one fight at the weight against Ruiz. However, if that version of Roy was around today, I'd take him to beat the majority of the top ten. Then you have guys such as Rahman, Tua, Sanders, Peter, Ruiz, Valuev, and Brewster etc, that are all as good, if not better than, the majority of today's top 20.
