"I'm due to speak to [WBA president] Gilberto Mendoza, who may come to the UK in December," Hearn said to Sky Sports. "Luis Ortiz was the mandatory but has been banned so there will be a new one.

"Manuel Charr has won the 'regular' title but they are not looking at him as a mandatory challenger. Alexander Povetkin is fighting Christian Hammer which could be the final eliminator to be Joshua's mandatory."

"We have spoken about Joshua vs Povetkin, and the likelihood of that. We have a really good relationship with World of Boxing, who are his promoters. They have a situation where they can fight a final eliminator to be the mandatory for Joshua, or for the WBO, so they are making that decision now."

Sounds good, too good so I won't believe it until they are both in the ring (as SOME heavyweights had actually run away from a scheduled title fight).

I think Povetkin will choose the WBO mandatory. Povetkin's promoter has said, that he thinks Povetkin isn't ready yet for Joshua and he thinks he will be after 1 or 2 fights.

Lol at Povetkin not being ready he isn't getting any younger, he's only going to get worse with each fight. But I get why he wants to go the WBO route it's an easier proposition and if he wins he has far more leverage for a unification with Joshua.

Also Povetkin's promoter has said that he wants Joshua fight maximum in 3 fights time ,he doesn't want to wait too much.

He is close to mandatory spot in both organizations, so beating Hammer will make him a mandatory.

Povetkin/Hammer is the proposed mandatory but Povetkin is in the process of making the decision for which mandatory spot to go. Looks like he will go for the WBO...

This. Povetkin can get Parker to come to Russia while the same isn't true for Joshua.

Povetkin won't get a title shot against an established champ next year.

The best he will manage is a shot at a vacant title if someone gets stripped.

I think that's unlikely as well.

Povetkin is on the outside with his nose pressed up against the glass looking in.

Well there's only 25 days left in this year so yeah unlikely he gets a shot in the next 25 days.

I assume you meant in 2018. Well Parker did just face his mandatory and a unification with Joshua would super cede his mandatory status. But Parker has shown he is willing to face Povetkin when he asked them for $4 mill for a shot at his belt, so I could easily see Povetkin getting a voluntary shot at Parker, Parker clearly doesn't fear Povetkin.

I think Povetkin will get fobbed off by both the established champions & the sanctioning bodies.

They'll make all the right noises about giving him a title shot but won't.

Povetkin & the people handling him need to think outside the square to make something happen.

They should offer Tyson Fury massive money (I mean obscene money) & challenge for the lineal championship.

That would deal Povetkin into the heavyweight sweepstakes in a big way. In fact, to many, it would make him the real champ (if he were to win).

Unfortunately, I don't think the Russians understand professional boxing are not astute enough to make such a play.
