This is reaching the level of insanity. Wladimir decided not to fight Haye, so he has to choose another opponent. One who is ranked sufficiently high by the WBA. If people are criticising Haye for fighting Povetkin, he could feasibly be criticised for fighting ANYONE in the division. Ruslan Chagaev the actual mandatory is the fighter who is washed up! His best wins at heavyweight were against men Haye has himself defeated. He got beaten up badly by Wladimir and has never looked the same since. Chagaev is too slow and has too much of a suspect chin to beat Haye. Yes Povetkin turned down Wladimir, yes he never got matched with Peter when he was supposed to. And yes his career has moved in a bizarre direction at a strange pace. He has personal reasons, including the death of his close father, which influenced alot of this. He is NOT WASHED UP. Has never been beat up in a fight, and is more than capable of scoring an upset. Great fight to be made. If you think otherwise you better not ever comment on Haye again, the hatred hath ravaged all other mental faculties.

i give Haye crap for ducking the brothers but i'll give him total credit for taking on and beating Povetkin, was hoping he'd try an offer to Adamek in July but this is a decent matchup whether Povetkin looked weak last few fights. I wouldnt mind a Haye-Chambers either.

I'd make Haye the favorite in this fight, but not a heavy favorite at all. The best possible version of Povetkin is arguably just as good or better than Haye, but Povetkin hasn't been impressive for some time.

It's not a bad fight at all--the only fighter I'd rather see Haye fight is Adamek. A bad fight will be what we will probably get--eg Haye vrs. Meehan or Rahman.

I don't know that we've seen any real tangible evidence to support that Povetkin is washed up. He's 31 years old, undefeated and has never been badly hurt or shown any signs of going backwards. I will say that his level of activity for a man who has been a pro for the better part of 6 years hasn't been that prolific though. By this point, one might expect him to have closer to 30 fights as opposed to 20, but that's about it.

Povetkin is wasting his prime years right now
same with Boytsov....they need to fight Klitschkos before they retire, after that there wont be any money at HW anymore

And Haye beat ancient Ruiz, Barrett with the losing record over the past few years, shot Harrison who was never that good in the first place. I think their record is about even.

i could give a **** about haye...lets justify povetkins **** record by looking at hayes **** heavyweight fights....
haye was at least smart enough to fight old pieces of **** that held a title..albeit a paper title....povetkin is the first heavyweight fighter i have ever heard of to decline a shot at the heavyweight title after being ranked #1 and being a mandatory

It does seem as though Povetkin is on a downslide and hasn't faced a live opponent in ages and thus may be unprepared. But this definitly beats a fight with Mormeck so I will give Haye plenty of credit should he win. This is imo Haye's first real test as a HW, all his other fights were hand picked bs. If he does win, it will also serve him well as it will put more pressure on Wlad to face him.

haven't seen any recent Povetkin fights, but on paper at least this is one of the better fights that haye can make (outside the klits, which is a whole other topic). this should be an improvement over all his prior hw opponents (ranking in order: valuev, older ruiz, shot chin monte barret,........audley). if povetkin ain't washed up, should be a very good guage of haye
