True, and I will also ad that even Riddick Bowe had 35 fights and was already a former champion by the time he had been fighting as long as Povetkin.
I wouldn't call any of his wins stellar, but I suppose Nikolay Valuev does at least count as somewhat decent.
LOL,people already trying to play down haye's fight before its signed!.priceless. clearly povetkin is a real challenge, ranked in top ten by ring mag and all other rankings. a much better opponent than solis or chisora!. and haye will make it look like a poor match up as he will KO/TKO povetkin with relative ease. and anyway, this isnt haye's choice, its his MANDATORY,has to fight them!does NOT have a choice in who he faces.duhhhh.
Yes, but the difference is that Wlad and Vitali have for the most part, been facing reasonable opposition within the past two to three years, where as Haye has beaten perhaps only one viable opponent within that same time frame.. Of course, the Klits have each fought a few lesser opponents within that period such as Rahman, Briggs, and Sosnowski. But they also have combined wins over Peter, Gomez, Arreola, Chagaev, Chambers, Thompson, etc.. Vauev is the only fighter that Haye has fought worth mentioning. I will also ad that while I full heartedly agree that Povetkin is a better fighter than Chisora, Derek is not meant to be a major headline fight for Wlad. He is more or less a fill in opponent, because there is no one else available at the moment who will take him on.. Povetkin may also be better than Solis, but I don't think that its by a terribly wide margin..
I have my reservations about that. I think his cautious fighting style restricts him from being aggressive enough. But when Alexander fights on the inside, and he's slugging it out, he looks quite impressive to me....
I'm a former fan of Haye. I like his style but ever since he went to heavyweight he has been nothing but a punk. With that being said I like this fight. I don't think he should have called out the Klitschko's and he certainly should have made they fight after he did and thats motsly why I lost intewrest. My thoughts were he should campaign for 2 years or so fighting top heavies I.E. Povetkin, Chambers, Arreola, Adamek, and build some interest then fight a Klitshcko. I think the smaller heavies can put on a better show due to the increased work rate and they can still bang. Povetkin has been extremely inactive as of late and I haven't seen his last few fights so I'm not sure why people are calling him washed up. He is definitely not shop worn. It could be because half the people on here don't know **** about the fight game but maybe I'm out of touch w/ Povetkin. I don't know what kind on chin he possesses but I'm looking for and exciting, active fight w/ 2 capable heavies. If Povetkin isn't shot or too rusty I think this may be a close fight. Hopefully a war. P.S- I don't fault Povetkin for pulling out of the Klitschko fight because I don't think he faught enough top heavies to challenge a Klitschko. I would have advised him to fight some top level heavies for another year or two then fight a Klitschko. Same thing I would have done w/ Haye. The only reason I hold Haye to a different standard is he was utterly disrespectful to the Klitschko's then he complains and doesn't make the fight. He does not deserve anywhere near 50 of revenue yet he got it and still talks ****. Anyway this is a step in the right direction for both fighters and has the potnetial to be a good heavyweight fight that we have not seen in years.
claims Duva) Povetkin, who was ringside for Adamek's most recent bout on December 9 in Newark, NJ against Vinny Maddalone, is the only Adamek bout HBO would be interested in buying outside of a matchup with either Klitschko brother or David Haye. Main Events has released two emails exclusively to ***********.com from German-based Sauerland Event general manager Chris Meyer, the promoter of Povetkin, where Meyer states that they weren't interested in making the fight. "It looks to me at the moment that we Team Povetkin will likely move in another direction than a bout versus Adamek in March/April."That email was proceeded by another dated December 15, where Meyer writes: "This is to confirm again that I had confirmed to you a week or two ago that we are not interested in an Adamek/Povetkin match at this point of time....." Fact is you get taken to school each and every time! FACT
