For all his potential weaknesses, i) does he really crack hard enough to impose his style on genuine big guys like Wladimir - who for me is growing increasingly over-rated, you can't help liking the kid.

He's fresh, different and ambitious. Compare him with the likes of Roman Greenberg, similar squat stature, young and well backed. He's fighting semi-retired domestic Cruiserweights and tank-town heavies.

Povetkin is abreath of promotional and fistic fresh air in the slumbering division. Matched sensibly he could be a significant star in the division. Rushing him to the last step would be a mistake in my mind.

A tall guy with some pop next?

Would you fancy him versus Tony Thompson? The other emerging force in the division?

Something else to frighting us Povetkin watchers and hopers, John Tate broke into the ratings with a 13th fight win over Mercado.

Also Sam McVey defeated Denver Ed Martin, Kid Carter, and Fred Russell very early in his career-the exact number of contests is open to debate.

Joe Louis was ranked No4 in his first six months as a pro.
