    What is he?

He is a good heavyweight with the potential to be something more.

The guy passed every test thrown at him since turning pro. He seems willing to take on anyone. You cannot say he is a protected fighter. I give him credit for not doing the 35 and 0 thing with 30 knockouts against complete tomato-cans. He has fought a better level of comp than any heavyweight I can think of recently coming into the pro ranks.
He may not have super one-shot power like Tyson or a Larry Holmes like jab, but the man obviously does a lot of things well.

Agreed. Brock was choking that night, but he still had Wlad confused and Manny very worried, until Wlad found himself and started sitting on his jab. Had this not happen, Brock could have taken Wlad into deep water in the 9th or 10th. Brock is better than he was that night.
He would stand a very good chance of defeating Povetkin, especially if he connects with a left hook like he did with Yuri Foreman. Povetkin's too untested. I may change my mind if he has a chin.

Povetkin has done well as a pro, excellent report card for 14 fights but lets not underestimate Vlad's developement under Manny Stewart and his improvement and confidence builder since the Peter fight, I like Alex's infighting ability and he is developing well but he would be better served if he went after Sultan or Peter and a few others before chancing Vlad...Vlad could unify his half and Povetkin could go for a title and then we will see, Keep the kid active, fight Tony Thompson or McCline because he needs to get in there with a Big guy, Brock and Chambers are shorter than him, I want to see how he does vs the Big men ( It may be easier) but why rush him, Let the cream rise to the top...If Alex is that good when he gets to the top he will have professional experience against all types and the Vlad fight if they are still both there will be a MEGA Fight for the World

Agreed. When Vlad is in his zone, he is on another level. I am not arguing that Alex is ready for Vlad, but he has already proven in 14 fights that he is a good professional. He has already taken more steps towards the big time than guys like Joe Mesi did in more than twice as many fights. I too think Povetkin needs more experience against different types of fighters. Can he get get inside on a big man with a good jab? I don't know, but somehow I'd like his chances more if he showed more head movement and less propensity to be willing to eat punches. All and all, it is good to see another skilled, talented and hungry heavyweight arrive on the scene.

All good reason to be a Povetkin fan, but Wlad still stops him in under 8.

true, golota is a veteran he knows all the tricks would be very entertaining.. povetkin is to green to feed wlad with.. he slaughters him very quickly.. wlad is better in every aspect.. i really don't believe that Alex ever can beat wlad..
wlad owns the ring once he steps up in it.. only against sam peter he was very scared otherwise he's the man in there

I think Povetkin is a bigger puncher than the Byrd fight would suggest. He seemed to choose volume over volatility, and as a result didn't put as much on his punches as he would against Wlad.

The only grade A punch he had an opportunity to catch was from Friday Ahunanya in his 6th fight. I did not notice him flinch.
With his style - and his previous level of success - including pro kickboxing championships before he even laced up for boxing - he got to be at least solid in the chin department.

That's likely. Or Wlad may just cave in under pressure. We do not know yet.

Sure Peter will last the distance. Povetkin will cruise to a safe UD.

Wlad is not in danger, he will probably have an easy fight with Povetkin. I think it will look similiar to the Brock/Wlad match, Wlad will hold back his power punches and control the fight with his jab and conserving his energy, where he will start to unload and knock Povetkin out or TKO him around the 8th

We should be able to compare Povetkin and Brock quite soon.

IMO, Povetkin is head and shoulders above Brock in skill level. It will be a bigger challenge to control him.

It won't look anything like the Brock fight.

Brock is a defensive cutey who likes to roll with punches and use footwork to step in to land right hands and step out to avoid. That isn't anything like Povetkin. Povetkin is a hunter who once there stays there. He's the heavyweight version of Miguel Cotto.

It'll be a battle of attrition because Waldo will be forced to fight inside. Of that I have no doubt. Povetkin will opt for volume and the big octopus will try and take his head off in his usual anxious fashion.

And after some rounds are in the books Waldo will fade and Povetkin will come on stronger. He will also start landing with more regularity as his sole focus is landing those short left hooks, just like Cotto does.

Waldo has a chance of landing a bomb on Povetkin and stopping him. But if he doesn't land that bomb he is in alot of trouble.
