After watching Peter take Maskaev's title tonight, Povetkin will likely call him out. Maskaev was the only Russian champion and someone Povetkin looked up to and I'm sure his team could see that this would be an exciting win for him. None of them have fought high level aggressive fighters yet, so this would be a great matchup that would answer a lot of questions about both fighters, while also making Klitschko-Povetkin/Peter a much bigger event. Often times KO's seems to erase what a fighter did the entire fight before the KO. Peter looked terrible tonight. Steward and the HBO gang were hyping him up after he won, but anyone who knows boxing knows that Peter gave a bad, very unimpressive performance. If Peter-Povetkin happened and Peter came in at 251 pounds like he did tonight, I would be extremely confident in a Povetkin by stoppage pick. Peter's stamina is **** and he is sloppy as hell. His chin is not what people thought it was and his power isn't either. He doesn't react to pressure well and can't handle a fast paced fight, especially when he's out of shape. Povetkin has a very good chin and would be able to take Peter's punches, so I'm not too worried about that. It would surprise me to see Peter last 12 rounds with Povetkin if he was in Maskaev's place tonight. Povetkin would force him to fight at his pace and would eventually break him down. His inside game is much, much better than Peter's and although Peter's jab would be a problem, I think Povetkin would have more than enough success getting on the inside and outworking him to win rounds. Povetkin would also be a lot more motivated for this fight than the Byrd/Chambers ones. It would be the first fight he's an underdog in, his first championship fight, his first opponent that talks **** too him, and he would be fighting for Maskaev's revenge, something that might sound silly but is very important to him. We would see Povetkin at 100% for the first time and probably see the same out of shape, not fully focused/motivated Peter we have come to know. Povetkin said that if he fought for a title he would train like never before and I'm sure it's not just talk. Anyways, I'm starting to sound like a nuthugger, who do you guys think wins this fight? I need to go to sleep.. the sun's about to come up.
You really reckon Povetkin would trade in a shot at the #1 guy and the biggest payday of his career to fight Peter instead? I don't know.
Both Sam and Povetkin are fat ******* plodders. Is Sam not fighting Vitali next ? Vitali is going to dethrone Sam easy.
Povetkin threw nearly 1,000 punches in his first 12 round full distance fight while being more out of shape than usual as a result of being sick a few weeks before the fight. His stamina/workrate is proven and great. At 100% he will be even better. Does anyone actually think Vitaly will really come out of retirement? And if he does, he will most likely be in much worse shape. Anyways, I'll reply to these posts tomorrow.
I believe that povetkin would beat Peter, he is simply a better boxer. I think that Vitali would beat Peter up, cut him and bash him . Right now we have no idea if Vitali will fight. Wait and see. If Povetkin has a chance to fight Peter he would take it over Vlad so he can get a title. The million dollar question is Don Kings avoidance of any fighter that he doesn't have a say in he will try to sign someone that is a contender.
Although Povetkin looks like he is easy to hit, it is only the better class of boxers that can hit him. Barring a lucky punch, it doesn't seem likely that Peter will catch Povetkin with a solid hit. Peter on the other hand is very easy to hit and Povetkin will hit him. As to whether Povetkin can knock him out remains to be seen. Klitschko's IBF mandatory is Povetkin so I think that fight is much more likely to happen this year. Povetkin will also make a lot more money fighting Klitschko.
