Povetkin Pumpers: You've got some 'splainin' to do

Povetkin faced Chambers when he was still valid. That was way back in 2008. So, he has been facing quality opponents for a long time now.

 

^ the key difference is nobody really values the WBA "regular" champion. So the defenses of that belt don't get put under much scrutiny. Were Povetkin's defenses sub par Yes. But there is a big difference between that belt and the "super" version of that title and the other 3 main belts.
I view the WBA champion as Wlad K and don't really care who Chagaev defends his trinket against.
To me and this is just my opinion it's worse to make bad defenses of the WBC title than the WBA regular belt. It just doesn't hold the same merit.

So I'm supposed to buy that smaller heavyweights from the 70's and before would beat today's big men, but....

-A Cruiserweight champion (in a deep division) with bigger dimensions than Joe Frazier moving up is worth ragging on as a defense?

-That a man who was over 6'1 and 210 (close to Joe Louis size) gets counted as a LHW as a knock, when plenty of legit contenders (and no some champions) were actual LHW's or LHW sized?

You need not twist things in your favor to justify your thread. Wlad is and was the WBA champ. There is no grey area.

Pianeta is better than both Duhaupas and especially Molina.

Pianeta already beat Duhaupas and would do it again. He was legit top 20 at the time he fought Chagaev.

Molina is a complete joke and not worth mentioning in the same sentence as Pianeta. Molina is probably the closest to what you call a cab driver level opponent.

 

Oh yeah, it's pretty obvious that Povetkins "title reign" was a complete ****ing joke. As bad or worse than Wilders. Hopefully, after he brutally KO's Wilder he will not pull that same ****.

 

Povetkin held the lightly regarded WBA-regular belt, that's the difference. Despite that he faced and beat guys like Chagaev, Huck, and Boswell. The WBC title is far more regarded than the WBA-REGULAR title, Wlad is the really WBA champ! Look's like OP logic backfired, because Pov defended a lesser belt, and still boasts far better defenses!

 

OP is right, Povetkin won't be hood certified until he fights the great Dustin Nichols.

 

And now he's 36, and because he kod Perez...they think that he's the shiznik. He's 36. slow and is a plodder with no boxing skills. The recent addition of PEDs might've made him look like a puncher, but he really isn't against anyone that can box.

Though in his defense, he was going thru promotional troubles and that manic Teddy Atlas wasnt doing anything for his confidence pulling him out fo the Klitschko fight during the presser.

Had Potvetkin just gone ahead and fought Wlad back in the day, rather than waiting til 2013, he might have had another title shot vs Vitali, or possibly been fighting for the vacant title against Arreola instead of Stiverne. :think

 

I was never impressed with povetkin , but wilder is a delusional can crusher . After watching his last fight I thought his footwork reminded me of Vitali who looked drunk at times , but wilder does not have defensive reflexes, volume, accuracy, ring IQ and I don't think he has the chin Vitali had

 

Wilder's making some money. Good for him, and his family!
My gripe is how he has been brought along. He's just now fighting guys he can learn from! Yeah it's good he's learning, but when Bowe fought Holyfield the first time he was ready!
With Wilder there is some doubt about his preparation over the years due to his team selecting weak, or overly shop worn opponents that might have been good tests earlier in their careers.
A Duhaupas fight in 2011, or 2012 would have been more appropriate.

About Pov? He never was a champ. WBA regular? That's just the #1 contender belt, or as it is now, even less.
I wish people would quit calling the REGULAR champions world champions.
The belt is only used to advertise a "contender" as a champ to people who don't know any better, and collect sanctioning fees.
