Contrary to most US HW without amateur experience, Povetkin is accomplished amateur with record of 125-7, with all losses avenged. Before that he had successful amateur kick boxing career that included winning World Junior championship in 1997, World title in 1999 and a European professional kickboxing title in 2000. Then he was gold medal at 2004 Summer Olympics .... now he is 28 year old .... How old was Tyson when he dominated HW division? ... Be real: Povetkin is READY!
That may be true, but fighting a few more years before getting his shot will not give him any more experience ... if he is not ready yet he will be not ready later. But waiting for Wlad to tire out and become shot is maybe a good idea in general.
True, Povetkin has accomplishments. But unlike the amatuers, his lack of real ko power is going to hurt him. Not particularly powerful or quick, he was easy for Eddie Chambers to hit. It was a good thing Eddie can't hit either, because the way Povetkin swelled up, I shudder to think what'll happen when Wlad hits him. Hey Wlad isn't much either, but he can hit, and Alex is there to be hit. Wlad will destroy him.
With current Wlad, there is not too many who will ever be ready to beat him, only big punchers with good chin stands chance or someone who can seriously outbox him without being KOed. Povetkin may definitly box and have good chin but I think not good enough to trade with Wald.
Unless Wlad becomes fragile, he should be good through 40, or maybe unless the money comes before then.
I believe Povetkin is ready for his title shot and I think he will give Klitschko his toughest test during his current championship reign. I think Povetkin will come up short but he will establish himself as the #2 HW in this fight. He is a mature fighter, has the best amateur pedigree of any of the current HW's and one of the best in history. I think it was a mistake for him to fight someone like Taurus Sykes for his preperation match but he is a true professional and will be ready nonetheless come fight night. Most people saying he is not ready are Klitschko detractors who are already preparing their excuses after another victory for Wlad.
Povetkin is ready but his defence and come straight forward predictable style will be his downfall against Klitschkow which will counter him all night and then clinch...unfortunately !
Povetkin can't outbox Wlad, thats the problem like you just posted a fighter with a big punch can probably do some damage but Povetkin would'nt be able to penetrate thru Wlads right jab and Wlad won't let Povetkin bait him to the ropes like Corrie Sanders did to him so maybe Povetkin might be ready in a sense for Wlad in 2009 but he won't be able to beat him.
