Perfect stay busy opponent. In fact, that's one of the names I floated out there. This keeps Povetkin in training and gets him in the ring with a guy he will surely knock out within 4 rounds. Smart move on the part of Povetkin's management to keep him busy while waiting for Wlad.

That is a let down. A lot of us were at least hoping for a Michael Grant.

Agree. Given that Grant, Golota and Briggs were all floated as possible opponents this is not really anything to get excited about. Povetkin is faster, more skilled, and a much harder puncher. I don't expect Sykes to see the 4th round.

Sykes is not a spectacular fighter, he does a few things well and is quite busy as a boxer puncher. I took Friday to Box Sykes in Hobbs NM a few years ago and he was so hard to box he was strange style wise and hard to hit. Friday dropped a decision in the only fight Ahunanya has said was the one night he can't properly explain , Taurus wasn't in my league but i let him do what he does best and he took the decision. We went to Germany to fight Povetkin and he lost to the better man. Sykes will not beat Povetkin and i dont see him even trubling him, but i think he is the type of guy who can give you a quality workout befor a Klitschko fight. I think Alex's people have a good opponent here. Sykes doesn't lose to jerks, but he has boxed top nothch opposotion and knows his way around. Good warm up man...

I don't think its a let down...he's been sparring with McCline and TOS..Povetkin has taken the tough road from day one. Sykes is not a top guy but he at least can give Povetkin a couple rounds to stay sharp. This is exactly what Povetkin should be doing. Not risking his shot, and staying sharp.

I agree. Sykes isn't a complete bum, but he's a fairly soft touch for an aggressive fighter like Povetkin at this stage.

Did you guys actually think Povetkin would fight a Grant or Golota? Those are high risk no reward fights. Povetkin has already locked in his title shot. It would be absurd to take on one of those guys. Grant isn't good, but he's an unknown commodity since he's so inactive, and Golota is still very durable. No reason to fight that tough 4-6 months before you take on Wlad.

Bigcat, I asked in another thread, but what is Friday up to these days? Looking good? That was a war with Cameron.

Why not Sam Peter ? that would be a good test for Povetkin before the Klitschko fight

Jesus what a garbage fight Sykes has a Glass Jaw. I did not expect him to fight a dangerous fighter but this is a downright joke of a fight.

Did you honestly think Sasha's promoters were going to let him get in the ring with anybody with a pulse and risk his bout with Klitschko?

Bad move if true. Sykes is only 6'2", Povetkin should at least fight a someone tall.

Perfect indeed and Sykes would last longer than Michael Grant.

Who has been sparring with McCline and TOS (Poketkin, Sykes or Grant)??? I can't tell from the way you wrote it.
    Thanks.
