Povetkin - Sykes on July 19

The management of Povetkin has been awesome. They have moved him a long great and have him in position to fight for a title now. Sykes is a good stay busy fight. He is usually out of shape, not a big hitter, and not a great athlete.

A pretty shitty opponent, but it doesn't really matter. Guys like Grant/Golota, who resemble Klitschko more than someone like Sykes wouldn't give Povetkin any kind of test or make him more prepared for Wlad anyways. The important thing is that Povetkin is in training, working hard with great sparring partners (Williamson/McCline) and has something to look forward to before fighting Wlad.

 

why not simply wait for the shot. sykes is someone povetkin should fight in sparring not in a match people pay to see.

 

If he can't get by a Michael Grant, he might be killed against Wladdy.

Povetkin is 28 with two other champions out there. If he is not ready for Klit, he needs to know it.

Sykes has no KO power, the beast he can hope is to befuddle Povetkin to win a decision. But NO WAY this happens a) Povetkin is too good to lose to this idiot b) It is in Russia and if by some MIRACLE the fight was close, they would never give the decision any other way other than Povetkin's. Problem is though this is not an adequate warm up for Wlad and he will be underprepared and KO'd by Wlad inside 8 rds.

 

It's allright for povektin to take a staying sharp fight and not risking his shot, but Peter is called a bum for fighting audley to stay sharp for vitali... It makes no sense to me:huh

Povetkin is the only one to really work over your man, Lance thumbed him so that sort of doesn't count.

As for Taurus I suppose he is no worse than Cliff Couser, probably better, and in many ways Povetkin deserves a softer touch when one looks at his schedule.

well, good to see him fighting again after being off for a half year. After facing Byrd and Chambers, Sykes will be there to be taken out. Go into the Wlad fight with a KO in the last fight to put up on the highlight real.

Audley is a better opponent than Sykes but I would expect a better opponent vs. Peter since he's the WBC beltholder.
