Povetkin speaking about his upcoming fight with Larry Donald: "I won´t say much but will let my fists do the talking." Wow! a boxer with humility  His promoter Kalle Sauerland made a rather bold statement though. "I expect after next Saturday we will be going after the Klitschkos," Sauerland said. Wow! After only pro 13 fights, they're really pushing this guy. From what little I've seen, Povetkin has excellent natural power with solid skills but his lack of size may or may not hurt him. Donald will be a good test. I wouldn't be surprised if both he and Wald get though their next bouts, they try to make a fight based on Povetkin's team. Vitali is all tied up w/Mccline, Peter, Oleg and Wlad will be unable to secure a unification fight and has no mandatory. Wlad will probably try to fight a name or the best available opponent (like with Brock), which could very well be Povetkin if he takes care of Donald impressively. What is everyones' thoughts on this potential fight late this year?
There is no urgency for either of the Klitschkos to fight Povetikin anytime in the near future. Despite his potential, he still has much to prove before he is ready for a title shot.
Povetkin would lose in such a fight today.. He will however be ready in 18 months.. Either Klitschko would batter Povetkin today.. could be different in time. Great prospect though..........
i would agree with that, but for the fact that Barrett just got a title shot, Owen Beck just got a title shot, Shannon Briggs did after beating 10 straight guys who werent in the top 50, Ray Austin was a mandatory for goodness sake. Holyfield hasn't done anything near beating anyone decent and he's being talked about...so why not an amateur superchamp who has moved very quickly in the pro ranks.
I'm just curious since you clearly know more about Povetkin than most...What do u think he could improve in that time period? What are his strengths and weaknesses? I think his fight with Donald will reveal a lot that is if Donald hasn't completely faded :smoke
Please let it be true, even if its not I still like this guy so much. I'm looking for a real heavyweight to act like a ****ing fighter and come to fight and make an effort. I've been on the train with this guy and I'm not getting off.
Very good point, joe! However,Povetkin's stamina is still a huge question mark.Wouldnt be very wise to rush him into a title fight within the knowledge whether he is able to go 12 rounds or not, would it! Povetkin was one of the most dominating heavy weight amateur fighters of all times, and he seems to be on the way to dominate the big boys' league at the paid ranks, too.Nevertheless far too early to match him with the present undisputed nr.1.Povetkin desperately needs more rounds. He has never gone 10 or 12 rounds at the pros.
