I simply find it funny that the testing itself is a tool to serve the political interests in the sport because the testing org's track record of catching people honestly is so abysmal.

 

Doesn't matter why. This is down to contract law. Stiverne's offense = fight and contract remained; Povetkin's offense = fight and contract terminated. I think you're right, Povetkin should probably have pulled out of the fight and sued, but he didn't ergo tacit acceptance of the revised legal framework in the context of a failed test and fine. It's a weak counter claim after the event, really....

 

To get caught doping ONCE is the worst and a disgrace. But TWICE?! For me thats the huge difference here.

“The key question is why are we getting positive test results? They all repeatedly prove negative in all other laboratories, including the US lab, except for one random sample that we get immediately prior to the fight,” he said.

“Don’t want to jump to conclusions; just want to say it’s a strange coincidence,” he added.
“To assert that he has ingested something [prohibited] is simply impossible. Theoretically, I can assume that this substance turned up in his test accidentally. This happens sometimes. At least Stiverne, when he was cleared and allowed to fight, used this phrasing, saying that the [prohibited] substance turned up in his system accidentally,” he said.
Ryabinsky pointed out that, although Povetkin had provided the sample last Tuesday, VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) chose to notify the fighters of the allegedly failed test only at the last minute, on Saturday. “This is not normal practice, it’s very strange,” Ryabinsky said.

“It’s the second time that right before the fight, all of a sudden, we get a ‘dirty’ test result – one and only, with all others coming clean. This happened before the fight with Wilder, when there had been five tests, and the fourth allegedly turned out to be dirty, while the fifth came out clean again. This is political. Sharapova was banned in tennis. The entire Russian Olympic team was banned. What do you want to bet when Trump gets into office and relations are normalized with Russia no more Russian athletes will be found to be in violation? I can't stand it when athletics are politicized. It is not fair to the athletes who are used as pawns. Meldonium is something that was used extensively in Eastern Europe for years. Yet it was banned in January of this year and led to Sharapova's ban from tennis and the cancellation of the Wilder-Povetkin fight. Meldonium is like Viagra, in that it increases blood flow. It is not a PED. Look at what most of the real, unbiased experts had to say about it.
