rumours that this fight may take place 17 May in Moscow, neither camp has confirmed so far this would actually be a step-up for Povetkin, seeing as he's been targeting washed up 40 year old's in previous fights :rofl
It wouldn't surprise me. Wawrzyk isn't very good, although he has a nice-looking undefeated record. It would be an easy win for Povetkin against a tall heavyweight who will help prepare him for a fight with Wladimir in summer.
Povetkin has been sparring with Malik Scott, the best possible preparation for any opponent. This content is protected
I'd just be glad if he didn't sit on his arse until summer. I don't care who he's fighting. Just fight.
Povetkin probably KO's Wawrzyk Wawrzyk is Euro level at best, he's been riddled with injuries his whole career, last fight he had trouble with Robert Hawkins
Povektin is coming back with a bang under the training of Kostya Tszyu. Wlad will drop his belt to save himself the inevitable beatdown.
Wawrzyk is WBA-ranked, as sad that it is (He has the WBA International title) So WBA would just look even stupider.
"Povetkin has most of the atributes on his side, but I believe I would come into the ring and give a very good fight. I'd have to take risks and trade with him. He can be hurt" this is a quote from an interview with Wawrzyk earlier today in a Polish paper, he also mentioned that he has little time to prepare given he recieved the offer on such short notice, but because he is only 25, he will eagerly take the chance, mentioned he has a much better chance vs Povetkin than vs a Klitschko
I just learned Andrew Wawrzyk was knocked down by Aliaksandr Mazaleu (1-14), who has a 0% KO ratio: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=280245&cat=boxer And here's an article on a Ukrainian website about the possible Povetkin-Wawryzk fight (use google translate): http://www.boxingnews.com.ua/ru/novosti/4987-aleksandr-povetkin-vstretitsja-s-andzheem-vavrzhikom
Szpilka could win this but Wawrzyk, no. His chin is not the best and has been injured for a long time.
X 2 I'm a big Povetkin fan, but his career has been largely disappointing over the past couple years. I liked his Chagaev and Boswell fights. That is all, though. He isn't in good form to enter a fight with Wladimir. Hopefully this camp and fight can change that. If the fight with Wladimir goes down at the end of summer, Povetkin will need to fight in the month of May, so I hope it happens.
