I would like Whyte/Ortiz fight more than any other fight, once Whyte kocks the fu*k out of Ortiz all will know why Wilder ducked him.
Wouldn’t put Wilder out of the mix - didn’t look good against Fury, but still proved his power. Whyte vs Wilder would be a great match up - not sure it can happen though (Fury to win rematch!) Would love to see Miller vs Jo Joyce. Think Joyce would shock a few with a good win.
Uhm, no. Wilder has a much better resume than Whyte. Whyte probably has a slightly better resume than Ortiz, but it's despite not looking nearly as good as Ortiz in amasing the wins that he has. I don't know, maybe Whyte is better than Ortiz. But it doesn't look that way. People forget how good a win Jennings was at the time. He was virtually consensus top 5 HW at the time. Then he disappeared for a few years. But Ortiz's win was fantastic at the time. Then he followed up with two underrated, dominant wins against fringe top ten, clear top 15 hw's in Scott and Thompson. Then apart from a competitive loss to Wilder, nothing since against top 25ish opposition. Not as much as Whyte or Sasha, but an underrated amount of comp nonetheless. Enough to allow a credible but not conclusive determination that he is about at Sasha level and above Whyte level. The biggest point of contender v contender matches is to determine positioning. So, the whole point of Ortiz facing Sasha or Whyte is to more credibly determine where exactly he fits in the HW picture. Right now it's fair to say he's anywhere from #4-8. If he fought one of those two we would have clairity on where in that spectrum to rank him
Whyte defeating Povetkin easier isn't plausible , he's not supposed to. Whyte is only a handful style wise that could keep Joshua guessing and possibly make a fight out of it. You have only two options who are available if he wants the fights those are Whyt e and Miller, ones a 300 pound punching bag and one will be a more mobile unpredictable fighter so there's really not many interesting match ups if we're talking realistically who can give Joshua a legit threat close to anyone reasons to think they can win. Fury and Wilder can't be forced to fight Joshua! And Ortiz lives in fantasyland where he's the boogeyman ?
R.E Whyte deserving a title shot. In a realistic world, his resume really isn't great. But boxing isn't a realistic world, and he's probably taking the toughest fights out of the heavyweight contenders so maybe he does. But let's not make out he's gone through a murderous row and looked good doing it, because he hasn't done either.
Whyte's been trying to fight Wilder for ages now, Whyte and Hearn can try as hard as they like but it won't make a difference, they offered him $7-8 mill already and Wilder still didn't want to know. Whyte chasing the Wilder fight is pointless when it's pretty clear Wilder doesn't want the fight.
His resume isn't that deep with basically one good win vs Parker, a solid though dubious win over Chisora and an OK win over Browne that with hindsight isn't that good. But if he beats Chisora convincingly 2nd time around his thin resume is still better than anyone not named Wilder, Fury, Joshua and Povetkin. Fact is outside of those names nobody has a very good resume. Miller has fought nobody who's proven to be any good. Pulev has fought 1 live body recently in Hughie and is now fighting in the US and happily ignoring Joshua. Ortiz hasn't done anything since losing to Wilder and has one solid win over Jennings years ago. So if Joshua can't secure Wilder or Fury and with him having just beaten Povetkin it leaves Whyte as the most deserving challenger. Personally I'd prefer Joshua face Wilder, Fury or even Miller. Going over old ground in Whyte doesn't interest me, but I won't begrudge Whyte a shot if he beats Chisora again and especially if he goes onto beat Povetkin.
That's what i mean. if i didn't think Whyte would deserve a shot, then there is not one HW contender out there who does. Although i don't rate him at all. Only reason i'd rather see AJ/Whyte over Miller is because the first time they did it, it was at domestic level and i don't see anyone out there, bar Ortiz but they won't fight him, who really should get the shot, assuming WIlder and Fury do run it back next
