Ike knocked out a prime Byrd in 5, nearly a decade before Povetkin struggled to ko Byrd in 11 rounds.

Ike beats the living dog**** out of Povetkin.

 

While Ike does get overrated by some but in this match up I find it hard to pick against him.

He showed in the Tua fight he could take anything Povetkin could dish out and set a pace Povetkin would struggle with. Ike was also bigger and likely stronger and could hurt Povetkin. Ibeabuchi breaks him down and stops him late.

Ike had workrate, infighting skills, chin and power (all strong sides of Sasha).

But Ike had even better power and chin, as well as much, much stronger physically (look at Povetkin thin arms and then look at Ike).

What happened to Kirk? He was pretty good contender, a talented guy, beat Nicholson, Larry Donald, KO'd Maskaev and Savarese cold inside 4 rounds.

Did he lose the motivation? Why did he came so fat in late fights, and then quit boxing so early?

I remember the Ruiz fight which Kirk was winning and Ruiz faking low blows. Duva signed Johnson before the fight as they were sure he'd win the world title. However, Johnson was taken 3 points off and the DQ'd. Was a Ruiz fight a turning point for Kirk?

Wow, you're crazy! He didn't even mention the K's, just that Ibeabuchi is the quintessential "grass is always greener" boxer. His exit from the sport allows everyone to overlook his limitations and speculate on what might have been. His only huge wins both were highly competitive in different ways. There's no real reason to think Ike would have had much of a chance against either Klitschko or Lewis, or been anything other than a top contender/ununified beltholder in the Ruiz Rahman Tua Byrd manner

Horrible fight, borderline corrupt ref. The low blows were borderline at best and Johnson didn't deserve dq, should have gotten a decision win in that fight.

 

Ike was really, really, scary. Scarier than Mike Tyson, I think, because he was bigger than Iron Mike. Truly a sad story, like Tony Ayala, a what could have been story.

I'll take Ike by early brutal KO. Over just about anybody.
