Since Povetkin has said he will indeed fight a "name" fighter in July before his title shot at Wlad in November....Who could it be? It's smart otherwise his layoff would be 10 months although im sure it wont be against a "live" opponent. I wouldnt be surprised if it's against one of the British C class hws known as Skelton or Sprott....Krasniqi or Iggy Jr. wouldn't surprise me either. the real big problem for povetkin is he has never faced a big puncher. he will be in-over-his head against Wlad despite what my avy says
povetikin will lose against WLAD by brutal ko or boring as russianUD like IGGY he will not fight a live opponet as it would risk his title shot but if he does then good for him i give him his props
Davof Haye would be great to see. Haye would have his hands full with Povetkin, and vice versa. That'd be a killer fight. But as you said, we all know Povetkin won't risk his titleshot with a tough opponent. He'll fight someone who is barely known, or someone who is known, but won't offer much resistance.
Audley Harrison would be a good choice, it's a tall fighter with good skills, weak chin, he's the poor mans version of Wlad, at least it will teach him to punch up against someone who's a similar size as Wlad. I think it would be the perfect choice, as well being somewhat of name, you know Audley would sign up for it, he's been talking about how bad he wants a crack at Wlads belt, thats make it happen.
yep. they wont risk the off chance povetkin loses. on 1 hand it's smart. keep him busy with a can. but on the other, fighting non-punchers like donald, byrd and chambers does nothing to prepare him for what wlad will be serving. the white lion will be turned into a kitten when he steps in with wlad that fight would be awesome though. the three hw fights id like to see most excluding wlad would be: povetkin-haye, povetkin-peter, haye-peter
I don't see Povetkin fighting David Haye, just because Haye would have more upside to taking that fight than Povetkin. Povetkin will probably fight someone around the same skill level/rank as Eddie Chambers was. (Timor Ibragimov? Valuev?)
Valuev? I can't see Povetkin taking that kind of risk. Valuev would be a to the death fight for Povetkin. One that Povetkin would probably lose. I think we'll see Povetkin fight someone like Audley ( good and reasonable pick Punisher), or someone else who he is pretty sure he can paste. With this being a voluntary, stay busy fight, you can bet that Povetkin won't risk his titleshot by fighting anyone who brings even the sightest threat. He may even pick Larry Merchant or Lou Duva for his opponent.
Hopefully Povetkin's promotional team will come to their senses and campaign to fight one of the other champions. A Peter fight would be perfect. Sasha would be competitive with the increasingly fat Nigerian powerpuncher. Wlad will just wipe the floor with him. A.P. has not shown that great of a chin and got busted up a bit from the light-hitting Chambers. Maybe I'm not seeing something but this obsession with fighting Wlad this early in his career seems crazy.
I agree it was a bit premature, but according to the thread starter, they have decided to fight someone else, first, in hopes of further honing Povetkin's skills. Good move. Now he needs to pick just the right opponent.
I'd love to see a Golota fight!!:yep THere is nothing like seeing the mad/confused Polish face when he gets KOed
