Povetkin vs Mormeck for WBA title with Haye elevated to ''Super Champion''?

    Over at the Scene

    According to the 31-year-old former 2004 Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist's trainer Teddy Atlas, Povetkin, 21-0 (15 KO), is likely to face former cruiserweight champion Jean-Marc Mormeck, 36-4 (22 KO), of France for the vacant WBA "Regular" heavyweight championship in June.

    This is all contingent on current WBA titlist David Haye, who is expected to be elevated to "Super" champion status should he face acknowledged champ Wladimir Klitschko in July as is being discussed.

    The WBA are the most ****-takingly corrupt sanctioning body, which is saying something in boxing.

    This is so sad. The Heavyweight champion, once the most important and respected of honours in Sport, now a fragmented piece of a crown that is no longer what it once was and it is getting worse.

    People can say that titles do not matter, but imagine Football without the World Cup, Tennis without the Grand Slams, Rugby without the six nations, it would just ruin those sports and without titles in Boxing, Boxing is in a bad place. I seriously hate the sanctioning bodies, they are absolutely despicable, they make FIFA look like they act with good intentions.

    Povetkin Vs Chagaev/Valuev are far more interesting and worthwhile.

    For what it's worth I think Povetkin is going nowhere. Bruce Seldon and now this :lol:

    Mormeck, never more than a B-level fighter IMO, would be a good opponent for Fury.

    oh yeah, i forgot about chagaev. so he's gone from being haye's mandatory to not even being considered for the WBA regular title

    I'm surprised it took them this long to create another champion. By the end of 2012 they'll have crowned an interim champion too.

    Their wet dream would be a situation where Valuev, Chagaev and Ruiz are all WBA "Champions". I'm not convinced that Ruiz necessarily has to come out of retirement for this to happen.
