Povetkin in a night of light work. The two should not even be mentioned in the same breath. Povetkin has fought the best heavyweight in the world and beaten a host of contenders and former champs. Wilder fights cripples, nobodies, oldtimers, middleweights, carnival fat men, and paid divers.
Bronze Bomber Wilder knocks him the fuk out in less than 2 rounds. FFS he was dropped by a Wlad jab. 1 bomb on that chin will have Povetkin twitching on the floor like Liakhovich did. Bomb squad!
i'd pick povetkin to beat wilder if they fought next, but he's not going to simply destroy him. that's not what he does, and certainly not what he'd do against a guy with that much reach, speed, and power. he'd rely on his experience and boxing ability. we don't know what wilder has in late rounds, and that's what povetkin would look to find out. depending on what his maturation process looks like as a boxer, i'd say that wilder will be ready for a povetkin level opponent in a year and a half. there's a reason why wilder's being moved slowly. there are several, actually, but the big one is that he's just barely starting to look like a professional boxer. wilder has a ton of talent. he's huge, fast, and hits hard. that you all so quickly discount his talent speaks to your lack an eye for it, and also your bias.
People on forums wanted to see Wilder moved faster, but to me he probably needed to be moved more gradually. Going from the opposition he was facing straight into a WBC title fight (or a fight with A. Povetkin) shouldn't be the ideal scenario for his people. Sure he's fast and has legit power. But after over 30 pro fights, he still hasn't had enough rounds in the professional ranks against noteworthy opposition.
