His manager said that Povetkin would need at least 6 months to rest, recover and get ready for the next bout.

I read it few days ago too. It is quite dissapointing to me that from a highly active fighter he quickly becomes the opposite.

I wonder if this is becuase they think that's how long it'll be til the Ibrag Klit winner will need, or cause Povetkin is pretty smashed up from the Chambers fight.

And do they plan on holding out and fighting the unified titleholder, next?

very smart from povetkin's camp. basically, he's saying after wlad whoops on Iggy, he doesn't want wlad next. they realize he has no chance. they're not gonna say it but this is a very smart move. id like to see povetkin fight a rahman, tua, brewster next then maybe peter/haye or even iggy after wlad disposes of him.

wlad obviously wants to fight 3x this year so they know he's not gonna wait around. so it looks like wlad will fight thompson or chagaev next. i think heavyrighthand already said wlad contacted kohl to begin negotiations after he sparks Iggy. The ball will be in Chagaev's court and i say he doesn't want any of wlad. i hope im wrong, but chagaev's got to know he stands very little chance.

btw, thompson is a terribly boring fight. he's a top 10ish guy but has nothing to offer wlad in a fight. ray austin type finish in this one.

the most interesting fight out there right now is valuev or peter if he can get by senior citizen maskaev which is no sure thing. but vitali may enforce his mandatory shot.

Povetkin should have at least 6 months, plenty of time to work on his gameplan and conditioning. Chambers was no easy victory and exposed some openings that need work.

Out of all the options? It seems to me that Povetkin is the most real challenger for Wlad.

no way. he gets hit way too much and lacks the power to make wlad go into a defensive shell. u can't let wlad put his hands on you too much. i'd still say peter, chagaev, sultan, and virchis have better odds albeit no better than 15%.

read between the lines. 6 months off. he knows wlad is gonna fight earlier than that. they are in no hurry to claim that mandatory status.

It will take at least six months for Povetkin to correct the flaws in his style. For that to happen he will need to make some changes. What is the chances of him changing the team?

povetkin will not fight wlad anytime soon and harrison would be so afraid of wlad, he'd get knocked out by a jab.

Well, Povetkin needs and deserves a good rest.

However 6 months of rest (not 6 months between 2 fights) is too much IMO. If he stays out for a good 3 months and get back in the gym he can be back in the ring as soon as June to take on a tune-up before the title challenge. But 6 months of rest means 8 months without a fight and that could be too much.

    Let's see:

1 month to recover from the Chambers fight and rest.
    +
2 months waiting for negotiations and the solution of the glut involving Thompson, Povetking and possibly Chagaev, while doing regular conditioning and light training.
    +
3 months of hard specific boxing training to get into the ring in terrific shape and have a chance with Wlad.
    =
    6 months.

The prediction sounds about right for such a big and important fight, it's on par with what we've been seen from the matchmaking.

If Wlad opts to fight Povetkin first, then it will take less then 6 months, probably 5, but I seriously doubt it bc I believe Wlad will push hard to set a date with Chagaev and should spend some 30 days trying to arrange this fight before Povetkin.

In fact, I think Povetkin's camp will not be pushing that hard to set the fight so soon, they will probably look for an agreement for a fight on the second semester, better preparing their fighter and increasing his chances of winning.

Does that mean he'll be resting for six months? Or fighting in six months?

    Easy:D i didnt say i was picking him:nono

Unless Wlad looks like **** against Iggy? i favor Wlad, but realize that his win over chambers is a quality WIN and shows he's a top contender.

6 months aint nothing, in fact, its a good frame of preparation.

i gotta be honest, i dont think you can change a guy too much in 6 months. I do think they can gameplan and come up with an adjustment that wont leave him so open to the right hand. That's the biggest worry coming off the Chambers fight. Cutting the FLAB and getting in TOP SHAPE is the next concern:good

I dont know enough about his team to speculate, but adding a coach or two to help in prep cant hurt with everything ON THE LINE.
