:good Povetking was maintining quite a high workrate and hurting Byrd...do you think that had he continued, Byrd would have been fine after 12 rounds, or would any ref have stopped it in the end, sean?:think

Well, that's the problem with hype, 99% of the hyped guys aren't exactly what they are made out to be. If you knew Povetkin you knew what to expect and this is exactly what you got. A very skilled and technical gifted fighter but no big hitter. And he has his flaws. He can win a belt easily but won't be a long reigning dominant champion.

I dont see anything Povetkin can do against Wlad except maybe bleed on him.

Yeah, but I rather see him in there than Brock again. Chambers would probably get beat down as well, he will get hurt staying on the outside with Wlad I think.

    i do.
byrd could have easily fiddled his way through the last 4 mins and no i do not think the ref would have been close to stopping it bar his dad pulling him out.

but povetkin definatly raised his game and let rip more 8 through to the championship rounds.

Agree, he sure lacks power - but he is sure worth watching. Good for HW :smoke

It was a decent performance for Povetkin. Byrd fought as well as he could. Wlad is a much harder puncher than Povetkin but that doesn't mean Wlad would walk through him. Povetkin seems to be a steady type of guy that could possibly wear down the big Ukrainian.:smoke :smoke :rofl :rofl

It certainly is impressive to beat Byrd in your 14th fight. Most certianly.

But from the sound of it, Povetkin could benefit from some stamina improvement, and some weight training to put more power in his shots.

I am not talking about packing on alot of muscle, no. But from the looks of him, and from his obvious lack of KO power at this level, he could benefit to add some muscle and lose some of that bodyfat.

He certainly passed the test here today, though. :good Povetkin winning was the best thing for the division, so I am glad he won.

Povetkin would have had a great KO percentage if he fought bums for the first 30 fights, like most do.

Why the "obvious lack of KO power"? Donald was only KO'ed by Vitali, Byrd only by Wlad and Ibeabuchi. He still has 11 KO's out of 14.

Yes, Donald as his 13th, and jumping to Byrd for the 14th is quite an impressive undertaking......one that he succeeded at.

Povetkin is certainly on the expedited plan to a titleshot.
