Povetkin Won But...

Exactly, this lack of power argument is crazy. No Povetkin does not hit as hard as Wlad, big deal there aren't many heavies that do, but he can crack. He stopped Byrd, he blasted out Bostice, who Brock and Krasniqi couldn't stop, he took Bango out quicker than Valuev did. Ok Bango is no great shakes, but he stopped Byrd which is something only Ike Ibeabuchi, who to this day many people feel would have been an ATG, and Wladimir, arguably the hardest hitter in the division, have done.

Also he did land a lot, he clearly won every round and sorry but when you call a fighter Piggie and keep deriding him you obviously have a bias, and he stunned Chris multiple times.

 

He has gotten his stamina/pacing corrected.

And not only can he fight for 12 rounds,now, but he can do it under pressure, which is another thing, entirely............He was still moving and throwing in the last round of the Peter fight, and still had enough left to hurt Peter in the last round..

 

Agreed. I tried to debate but he won't explain where the so called lack of power comes from. So far for credibility.

 

He was also floored 3 times and hurt because of Peters pressure, pressure still effects Wlad to some extent even now.

 

Peters chin was good one, but wlad hurt it and take it down..it's never same anymore

 

You can't really measure it off of Byrd and Brock. Neither are any good at applying pressure.

Sam is not even in Povetkin's league when it comes to technique or skill. Povetkin is way ahead of Sam in that department. And he still dropped Waldo 3 times. Saying Waldo has improved even one iota since his vunerable days isn't accurate. He's still the same guy who will fold as soon as he runs into a guy who won't leave him alone.

 

His style is more suited now to deal with that. Not that I like it. No more hooks, no more uppercuts, just 1-2's all night long. When he's not playing jab-n-grab that is. Steward ruined Wlad.

 

The big IF being whether or not the ref is going to allow Waldo to jab and grab his way to victory.

You have to remember it was only some time ago that Robert Byrd would have none of that jab n grab and that directly influenced Waldo getting knocked out by Brewster.

With the right ref that abominable style goes right out the window, JUSTLY I might add.

 

Povetkin has numerous flaws in his style the worst being that he is too easy to hit. Byrd connected all too frequently and I can't help wondering what would have happened if it was Klitschko throwing those punches instead of Byrd.

 

Try to tell Peter and Austin that Wlad throws no more hooks. :blood

 

I agree. The good part is that he rarely gets hit without taking revenge. It's a risky tactic but so far it's working for him. I think his head movement is a little too subtle, but he showed improvement during the fight. He's a smart fighter, he can adapt. I think that may be his biggest asset. I don't know if it's enough against Waldo though.

 

We've had this discussion before, he's used them again in his last few fights, which I'm very pleased with. I'm a big Wlad fan. He hasn't used them in a long time though, you must admit that. I hope that one day Waldo will have his complete arsenal back again and fight like his pre-Steward days again. He may get knocked the **** out for it, but at least his fights will be good to watch.
