Boxing is not a poplarity contest or a beauty contest. So no matter if all ladies go crazy for Haye or he is is voted the most popular man in the world. What will matter is performance in the ring. Unless Haye makes big waves at heavyweight, all his looks and charisma wont mean ****. Lets see how he goes against some high quality heavies first. An exciting fighter will attract the fans and Povetkin is an exciting fighter. Even if he doesnt have one punch knockout power, his style is attacking and all-action.
These guys would have you believe that Cotto doesn't sell though. Nevermind fighting in front of 20,000 people in NYC or sold out arenas in Puerto Rico. Nevermind all the ads on his shirt and trunks, nope he doesn't sell. Sultan made eight million in Moscow, and Povetkin is a bigger star name than Sultan.
I agree, but it doesnt change the facts that the heavies is crying out for a poster boy. This will be Haye, & it helps he is ultra talented as well. Bottom line is, the HW division can only get better, something we should be thankful for, not hating on someone the instant potential is shown. I myslef am delighted we have the likes of Hasye, Povetkin , solis to look forward to.
He is talented yes, but he has yet to show the potential to be a poster boy, he simply isn't selling in any big way. That might change. I think Haye is talented, I haven't argued against that, what I have argued against is his potential as a star. It just hasn't shown itself yet.
Ding, we get you don't really rate Haye, whatever, no need to make this obvious all the time. (ps. i agree though haha, he should not be matched with povetkin or any top 5 HW at this moment, he should start lookign at those guys late 2008 ) btw, quick question ding, out of interest, what weight do you walk about in when not fighting?
I really wish Haye would spar more. He barely spars for fights and it shows. His defense is pretty open and it is one thing to eat a jab from Bonin, quite another to take a straight left from Chagaev or to deal with the speed and angles of Povetkin. He needs to tigthen up and the only way is to spar.
Alcaldemb, i agree.:good Im Hayes biggest fan, but im worried about this also. Im also worried when he says he wants to blow everyone out in 3 rounds, this will not always happen, i hope he realises this, although i suspect he does after Carl and Fragomeni.
LOL, I wonder who you are. I'm going to call Nate in a few minutes before I head to the gym. Do you mean Nate P. or Nate R.??
Nate P. I was talking about a possible fight for you with him the other day. I think there is an opportunity for you out there that could boost your profile big time, ask Nate if anyone has talked about any potential matches recently.
Especially Fragomeni, he is a very small guy with not much in the way of a punch and he was able to walk down Haye and land, which should be cause for concern when looking at the Mormeck fight. He needs to tighten his D, and he needs to get more comfortable in the ring by doing more sparring. He could also benefit from losing some of that bulk.
