Povtkin's activity in that period is a big mystery to me, because contrary to public opinion refusing to face Klitschko is only half of the story. By March 2010 both Povetkin and Sam Peter were IBF mandatory challengers. Since Povetkin was ahead of Peter in the rankings, and had never fought for a title he was offered a shot for 2.2 million. Because Peter was also a mandatory it was an option for he and Povetkin to fight in a final eliminator. Povetkin just completely went off the radar at that point. He chose not to fight Peter or Klitschko. So the 2.2 million and title oppurtunity when automatically to Peter. Ideally we would have seen a motivated Peter face Povetkin in a final eliminator which would have been a great fight, and excellent preparation for both. I'm glad Povetkin has finally taken a meaningful fight, but I wish I knew what happened to him in 2010?
