Whyte is better than Mercder was when he fought Holmes, Whyte has a tight high guard that Povetkin was struggling with, Morrison wws boxing Mercer`s ears off before getting caught, the only thing Mercder had at that time that Whyte doesn`t was a great chin.

I don't hate Dillian, or even intensely dislike him. I just like rooting against him, because of the deranged unhinged fervor of his fanboys, they actually convinced themselves that someone who went life and death with Chisora twice, and should have lost to Parker, who's chinny and has more technical flaws than you can shake a stick at, was one of the elite in the division, who Wilder and Fury were ducking. So I wanted to see him hanged, to bring them back down to earth. That being said, Whyte did believe his own hype, and opened his mouth a little too much, barking out insane proclamations about fighters he had no chance against. But whatever, that's what boxers do, no big deal. Still, it doesn't make it any less entertaining when they get their comeuppance.

It was huge considering the context.
Povetkin has hung tough at 40 and kudos to him.

While Whyte is over-hyped, I would not call him a bum in todays HW landscape as he has beaten some decent fighters.

It’s a great win period. Anytime you beat the number 2 rated heavyweight by Ko in their back yard it’s a good win. To do it, at age 40 after years in the sport and in decline is a great win.

As for everyone now claiming Whyte is a bum, since giving Joshua a very good fight he went on to beat :

    Chisora 2x
    Joseph Parker
    Oscar Rivas
    Lucas Browne
    Robert Helenius
    Mariusz wach

Among others, he has been very active and against good competition. It’s a great win for Povetkin.

An all time win? I don’t know about that. But a win that can win you both comeback fighter of the year and KO of the year Yes. A win that can land you one more big payday and one more shot at glory Yes. A win that can make you border line hOF boxer Yes.

Povetkin needed that win. He now has a very good resume and is the best heavyweight to not hold a major belt in a little over 20 years. Not bad at all.

Before the knockout punch against Whyte Povetkin was inferior to Tyson's McBride pefrormance.Every decent fighter can win
by a lucky punch. The ko punch was only one remarkable thing by Povetkin against Whyte.A lucky win that's all.
