To substantially affect a legitimate heavyweight no matter how hard they hit at Light Heavy?

I'm not talking about 190/200 pound cruiserweights... 175 pound lightheavies.

We saw Bob Foster, one of the hardest lightheavy punchers of all time fail to even knock down smallish heavyweights like Doug Jones, Zora Folley and Ernie Terell. Forget Ali and Frazier.

In 30 rounds, Micheal Spink's didn't so much as make Larry Holmes bat an eyelid.

Roy Jones sure as hell didn't do much against John Ruiz.

Micheal Moorer actually fits the criteria here to some degree.

He's stunned Holyfield pretty badly, knocked out a undefeated Botha in the final round, stopped Alex Stewart...

Billy Conn 168lb stunned louis VERY BADLY, louis would have gone down if he didnt grab on to conn.

175lb Bob Satterfield flattened # 2 heavyweight contender 6'2 215lb bob baker in 1 round, and beat up top rated heavyweight contender 6'3 215lb nino valdez. he also destroyed a young 6'3 200lb cleveland williams.

175lb Tommy Gomez knocked out rated contenders 209lb Johnny Flynn, 216lb Freddie Schott, and journeyman 295lb Big Ben Morez all out cold.

Where would you rank Gomez and Satterfield power wise, Suzie?

Archie Moore named Hatchmen Shepard as the hardest hitter he ever faced, correct?

    Thoughts on Curtis Shepard?

Archie Moore ko'ed a few heavies....but Archie might have been
a "cruiserweight" himself the way he moved up and down the scales.

Ezzard Charles was really a LtHvy too.

    Interesting discussion.

Can't image a LHW from any generation mixing it with Ali, and Foreman & Frazier would surely have ended their lives, let alone beat them.

Roy Jones was something else. But against the best heavies - no.

History just seems to show it isn't possible (okay, perhaps very, very occasionally).

..doug jones was a light heavy when he fought foster.
louis was under 200 when he fought conn.
archie moore was hugely impressed hatchetman's power....said he broke a man's collar bone once...

Louis was weight drained against Conn in a attempt at being lighter on his feet.

Well, what about Bob Fitzsimmons and Sam Langford? They should fit this criteria. Moorer is a good pick imo, even hat heavy he seemed to have very good power, more than most heavies. Wasn´t Choinksy also weighing in at the lhw department? I know he wasn´t one but i think he was weighing in as one for some of his fights.

Choynski, Fitzsimmons and Langord. Basically freaks of nature with damn near inhuman P4P power.

...Although we must remember he did it as a heavyweight, and not weighing 175. At 175, he would have had his work cut out to do the same thing.

I think it's possible, but you'd have to find a very sharp and accurate hitter at 175 to hurt a decent heavyweight. I'm not sure a modern 175'er can hurt and drop a big, modern world-class heavyweight these days...the gulf in size is huge for one thing.

I've seen a number of catchweight bouts between cruisers and heavyweights and the cruisers usually barely make the heavies blink, and the cruisers are still a fair bit bigger than 175'ers.

Foster was also the type of fighter that used his LW advantages to the extreme.

Some fighters just can't move their power up, although they show crippling power in their best weight class. Sort of like Zarate, or even Gomez.

Well, right know i don´t see any top lhw that would be able to even KO an gatekeeper type hw. Lhw today is one of the weakest divisions, imo even weaker than hw. It consists of old, past their prime greats like Hopkins, Jones and Calzaghe, old very good fighters who are proven like Tarver and Johnson, old very good fighters who never preoved it like Erdei, old good fighters like Woods and young talents who seem to be able to become very good fighters at best in Dawson and Diaconu. And none of them hits hard enough to KO any hw in the top30.
