Anybody have any interesting stories or quotes pertaining to Stanley Ketchel's power? Where does he rank power-wise at 160. I'd be especially interested to hear what, if anything, Jack Johnson and Jack O' Brian had to say.

Great thead, ketchell is one of the most underated old timers out there! he ranks well in my top 10 middleweights of all time. p4p 160lb I would say he ranks in the top 3 hardest punchers in middleweight history. Stanley Ketchell floored a fully matured 6'2 205lb jack johnson and buzzed johnson pretty good for 5 seconds with that right hand shot. Imagine carlos monzon hitting Muhammad Ali with 1 right hand and Ali going down buzzed for 5 seconds. Ketchell knocked O'brien a durable guy out cold at the final bell....literally. Ketchel took on sam langford when no other white fighter would, and held him on even terms.

Ill find a quote on the O'brien fight

Thanks for your thoughts. What do you think would have happened if that right hand landed on Johnson's chin instead of behind his ear? I have him in my top 5 middleweights usually, and agree he must be in the top three hardest hitters at the weight. I wish someone would write a good autobiography on him, there doesn't seem to be a lot of readily available info on him.

I think it would be a realy interesting read, i'd buy that right away.

I normaly have him top 5 at 160, but B-Hop is challenging for that now imo. I allways say that 160 has the tightest top 5 to organise

The guy had freaky and god given power.

The first time he put on boxing gloves at the fair he knocked his oponent out of the ring.

He demolished heavyweight Dan Porky Flyn like he was nothing.

ketchell unlike many old timers had good punching technique. He put his full body torque into all his punches.
