    A historic night will come on January 22 when PR Best Boxing Promotions presents a new edition of the series “Noche de Campeones DIRECTV” live from the Bayamón Correctional Complex 1072 in Bayamón, Puerto Rico in a pay-per-view event. This will be the first time that a professional boxing event will be presented in a prison in Puerto Rico, with fight fans attending along with prisoners. PR Best Boxing Promotions is also celebrating it’s 10th aniversary in the sport.
    “We wanted to start the 2011 with a big show and now we are going to make history with this card. We want to thank the Correctional Secretary Carlos Molina and the Bayamón Mayor Ramón Luis Rivera for their support and we are sure that this event will be successful,” promoter Iván Rivera said.

    In the main event, super bantamweight contender Jonathan Oquendo (19-2, 12 KOs), rated #3 by the WBO, will face Mexican Cuauhtemoc Vargas (15-4, 10 KOs) for the NABO 122 pound title.

    Also in action are cruiserweight prospect Carlos Negrón (10-0, 7 KOs), Olympian McJoe Arroyo (6-0, 3 KOs) and some prisoners such as Rafael “Lobito” Sierra (5-5-1, 2 KOs).

    TV transmission by DIRECTV Pay Per View (available only in Puerto Rico) will start at 9:00 pm (8:00 pm Eastern Time). Tickets available in Ticketcenter, 1 787 792-500 (www.tcpr.com).
    :rofl:bbb

    Haha what man in his right mind would pay to watch a fight in the crowds alongside prisoners.
    let alone bring your girl.
    I think they should frame cotto for something he probably has some unpaid surgery bills.
    Then the card would be great. Still like the idea, prisoners fighting is hardcore.

    Floyd could be appearing on this soon.

  5. I don't think they are gonna sell tickets for that... The audience will most likely be 99% prisoners... Revenue will come from PPV.

    Otherwise theres a clear security risk.

    Are they not meant to be in prison to be punished?

    This very easily could be Sports Illustrateds "This Weeks Sign of the Apcolypse."

    James Scott used to fight in Rahway prison when he was a top ranked LHW contender.

    Dwight Qawi (who was in Rahway before) went there and beat his former fellow inmate.

    this is a cool story, especially with an inmate fighting on the card. I will definitely try to watch this.

  14. WTF?! They're in PRISON for ****'s sake! They're there because they broke the law and are being punished! What on earth have they done to deserve a PPV boxing event?! Mind boggling.
