What has been the impact of ppv on our sport?

Do you guys also think that boxing needs to get away from so many ppv?

It's never been nice paying , but back in the day it wasn't so bad.

However now ppv runs the sport, and it's effect on fights is growing.

Overall probably bad but now it's like you can't see big fights live without PPV. There needs to be more televised bouts for free to attract more people and to inform people like me about young prospects. I usually just pay attention to superstars and can't catch enough fights on prospects like I would like to.

A killer of the sport. death spiral business model. hate the idea, wish it would go away forever, but I'm pretty sure were stuck with it. Jones Hopkins the senior sparring match was a ppv ffs! If they have the balls to sell that to the public then this **** aint going away anytime soon. Viewers have got to get together and really start boycotting such disgraceful attempts at entertainment. When the promoters start losing money with ppvs, maybe they'll start making the matches that true boxing fans want to see.

My own opinion is that i dont mind the odd ppv fight. Here in britain it seems that almost every half decent fight is ppv. Far too many ppv fights.

I agree, I think the bigger issue is getting your money's worth

If I drop 75.00 (hd is more) on a big fight I want to see great bouts, not just the main , but good undercards.......If you want watch 3 snorefests, or quick 1 round tko......then the main event is up and its a lobsided match....then I feel empty afterwards.........

Espn, Telefutura, HBO, Showtime, I watch bouts all the time on there, and have been pleasantly surprised.........some PPV I will not watch or order....I will did not buy Hopkins-Jones....And would never ever pay to watch a Margarito bout...........I am not interested in Watching Marquez-Diaz.............So people can choose and pick what to watch, and what not to watch. IF you watch every single PPV bout whether Top Rank, or HBO PPV then, obviously not all bouts will be good.. Thats why its on you to know the sport before you buy into it, and know where and when to spend your dollars...........

It's the idiots who actually pay for Hopkins v Jones, Holyfield v Botha, JMM v Diaz that perpetuate this nonsense, a nonsense that has crippled the sport's popularity, at least in the US.

This. PPV in and of itself isn't bad.It helps point out and advertise the really big name fighters. But now the promotional companies will put together just about any **** card and stick it on PPV.

PPV wouldn't be so bad nowadays if there was more mainstream support for boxing and if it was shown on regular TV channels like the end of the USA __day Night Fights era. You have no way of showing off the future of the sport except for a few on Friday Night Fights or HBO and not everyone has HBO. The internet and video sharing sites are helping to pick up the slack but you gotta bring people into it and get them interested first. Give people something to lead them in. PPV rules it all now though.

Its probably bad for the sport, if the cards on PPV were good it wouldn't be so bad but most of the time PPV cards are usually a good fight at top a decent fight as the co-main event, then complete crap for the rest of the card.

PPV is terrible. What other sports makes you pay $40-60 to see it? Certainly not the NFL or NBA or Nascar. Ali/Spinks II did 80 million viewers in 1978, and it was on free TV (a total of 4 title fights, IIRC). We can't even get 4 title fights on a PPV for Christ's sake! Boxing could very easily do something like that again and attract and cultivate a whole new audience. The promoters are too greedy(I understand their objective is to make money), and they make money by selling fights to HBO/Showtime or airing them on PPV.
