Whether Pacquiao vs Mosley sells well or not, I don't care.

I just want to know people's opinion on who will be held responsible for the numbers.

Will Pacquiao be the biggest factor?
    Or will it be CBS?

    This is for future reference.
    To avoid these scenarios:

*******s: If the numbers are good, it is because of Pac's popularity, but if the numbers are bad, it is because people prefer HBO over Showtime.

Anti-Pac: If the numbers are good, it is because of the bigger audience of CBS, but if the numbers are bad, it's because Pac stinks.

    I voted for Pacquiao.

So for me, Pacquiao AND ONLY Pacquiao will be held responsible for the numbers.
No excuses. If the number stinks, then it is because of Pacquiao and not because of the switch to Showtime.

Same here, Pac is the only reason. CBS or HBO or whatever, If the fans wants to watch Pac in action the would go to all that trouble to buy that PPV.

But if the numbers are low, you won't blame CBS?

I think it'll be because of the marketing CBS/Showtime will do on Pac. Pac has been undefeated for a couple of years, 8-division champion, KO highlight reels, and a nice guy image will sell well with the casual fan. If CBS pulls all the stops i.e. specials, show appearances, etc. then they will get Pac's name out there beyond the boxing fans and *******s.

The toughest part will be selling Mosley. He's 40 years old, looked like crap against Mayweather, and had a draw against Mora. My assumption will be that they will show Prime Mosley reels, and play up the second round of the Mayweather fight i.e. "still dangerous." Not to mention the probability that they will compare how they both beat Margarito and maybe even ODLH.

We will have to wait to see how it all plays out.

    That felt good.

    That's a very good point.

So for you, it's a combination of BOTH, but CBS will play the BIGGER role, thus voting for CBS. :good

It's do to the fact that Mosley is known to most fans. Pacquiao will always do big number. But to get to the million buys depends on his dance partner and how boxing fans think the fight will go. Plus need to factor how they promote the fight. Look what happened to Bradley/alexander fight. Top rank and golden boy would have done better if they had that fight.

as minion as this may sound, to this date i still dont know how to get ppv fights at home... well yes i do but i cant, for certain reasons

but i always go to the bars like i said before, and experience the real atmosphere of the fight

so for example, if i dont influence that ppv number... how can ppv numbers really be a true gauge as to the magnitude of a fight?

selling mosley will be easier then selling berto, alexander and bradley combined. Fans just wan't big names. To hardcore fans its a tough sell. But there's a reason why Hoya can still sell over a million, or why the iceman chuck liddell was the face of UFC for so long even after being KTFO serveral times.

If you think there's only 1 factor in whether a PPV sells then you don't have a clue about business. Pacquaio is a massive brand, the switch to CBS may mean Pacquaio gets even more exposure increasing the sales, but the loss of HBO may hurt the publicity too, and the opponent obviously is the final X factor

I believe that pac is that big of a name now to get buys for himself, I know cbs would help but the majority of buys will be attributed to Pac's name. (That is at least is MY OPINION only) =)

I know that a lot of factors can be considered, but what I'm asking is, who/what will be the BIGGEST factor.

This is to avoid the people discrediting Pacquiao/CBS.

Because I can almost see people saying: "oh that **** sells good because of CBS and not because of Pac."

    You get what I mean?

Yes. Pac is the biggest name in boxing next to Mayweather. Pac has been on Jimmy Kimmel and perhaps other American shows so there are some casual fans that have accumulated over the years. They've seen his style, they know he's a big winner, and they now he's a nice guy...people like winners. So CBS just needs to rake up more viewers by marketing to a broader audience.

Boxing fans know Pac and Mosley so there's little marketing needed to try to hype the fight. HBO would have done a 24/7 series and a couple of in-house interviews. I think that if this fight was on HBO we would see lower numbers than previous Pac fights because of Mosley.

Mosley isn't worth $50 when I can see it on a rerun later.

I don't think Mosley is an easier sell than Berto, Alexander, or Bradley. Mosley is too old and has not been impressive in his past two bouts. If anything, people who aren't at all familar with boxing will wonder why he's not fighting Mayweather since he put a beating on Mosley.

With Berto, Alexander or Bradley, there is a sense of danger because they are young and undefeated. That's how they hyped the Trinidad vs. ODLH fight; two undefeated young champions. That grabs people's attention.

ODLH and Chuck Liddell were big draws because they knew how to market themselves well. However, once Chuck lost it was over. Fans were waiting for him to make a comeback like Randy Couture, but Chuck couldn't. The casual fan began to jump off the bandwagon.

Mosley has not marketed himself well to be a big name, and his lack of activity and poor performance only hurts promoting this fight. The reason why Pac's fights with Cotto, Cloutey, and Margarito did so well is because they all had an angle for the opposition that grabbed people's attention. Cotto was coming off a devastating loss to Margarito. He was hungry to redeem himself by beating the #1 fighter. Cloutey was a young welter weight that had to prove himself. Margarito was a disgraced fighter, a fight at a higher weight, the sense of real danger to Pac, and people just wanted to see Margarito beaten by Pac.

You've pointed it out that it will be a hard sell to hardcore boxing fans, so it comes down to selling it to the casual fans.

This fight will be built around Pac and that depends on what CBS is willing to invest in promoting it.
